SSF4 character select screen, more screen shots
New images of Super Street Fighter 4's select screen, stage select, main menu and other various items have made their way to the web.
You can see from the shot below that there's 4 character slots still open, which matches up with the previous rumors that there will be 10 new characters.
Here's a chart showing how the new character select screen breaks down.

The 3 ??? spots are the 3S section, with Hakan being on the blank spot on the opposite side of Juri. I like the new menu, mainly because it looks so much nicer with 10 more spots added =P

if you look closely at the picture being blacked out you can actually see the characters. For example if you look close at the 3rd strike section the one all the way to the right looks like Ibuki.

The 4 characters remaining could very well be 3 from Third Strike and 1 brand new character. The empty spot on the far right is the exact opposite spot of Juri, new character. Since Juri is lumped in with the WORLD WARRIORS, the spot lumped in with ALPAH could be that of a brand new character.

can't really make out the one all the way to the left. looks like the person has on something purple and is wearing glasses but the picture is really fuzzy and hard to make out so I could be wrong. But the one in middle is definitely dudley cause I can see his green tie. And the one all the way to right is ibuki cause i can see the white bandages.

@90 No they are not. Dudley and Ibuki can easily be distinguished. If you are having trouble seeing it try saving image to desktop shining light on monitor and looking at a slightly enlarged image from an angle. The darkened image on the left however is just too ambiguous for me to say what character that is.

@128 I have to agree. I don't see anything resembling Makoto. I know the top middle is Ibuki, but the ones to the left and right of that, I'm having a hard time distinguishing between Dudley and Makoto, because they both look very manly. Makoto may even appear somewhere else on the Character select screen (near the alpha characters) and hakan and dudley would be grouped with Ibuki. Those silhouettes just don't look like women.

I thought Dudley was the middle as well, but upon closer inspection I think he's the left. There's what looks to be a moustache on that one. Right side is definitely Ibuki. The middle circle there is enough white where the mouth is that it could be Makoto, since she's usually yelling something.

Let's just drop Hakan. We have enough new characters in SF4. Abel, El Fuerte, Juri, Gouken, Rufus, C. Viper.
Do we really need a Hakan? Concept sounds lame anyways. If Capcom plans on adding 3S characters, they can at least do us the favor of completing most of Alpha : Add Rolento.
If you have time, also add Karin. Seriously, Rolento needs to be in this game, regardless...just forget Hakan, he's gonna be a waste of time, either broken/overpowered/or bottom tier. Let's just bring in Rolento and have the Alpha cast create havoc in this game! :)

His Flashkicks are better, and his other normals are very different. His 2 ultras would be a barrage of Sonic Booms similar to a FB ultra, and his Flashkick Ultra, which could be FADC > Ultra combo'd.

Why does anyone think they have this ability to pass judgement on the way Hakan would fit in to SSF4? Nobody on this site has played him, or knows anything about his move set. Do you just hate Arabic people (racism just makes it more obvious that your judegement is more than a little shaky)? Some people hate the way Rufus looks, but he happens to be pretty fun to use via being a pressure heavy character with insanely powerful combos.
While I agree that having a bunch of characters is fun maybe looking for characters with similar moves would just be a bit of a time sink. Karin has Rekka mix ups (similar to abel but more tricky) and a counter like Gouken. Cool but we all know she won't juggle the same way she used to and she wouldn't do as much damage, so eating a shoryuken in the middle of your rekkas and someone breaking your counter with a tiger knee wouldn't be as fun. Rolento is very fast, has good fake outs (crazy jumps and rolling), and has a rekka (again hmmm). Also a very fun and cool character, but looking at the engine again you lose a lot of the tricks thanks to easy reversals.
All of that goes without mentioning that if you look at the rumor list then you should have a decent guess at what characters we will be seeing. 3S chars right next to each other and the other new character (hakan) perfectly symmetrical with Juri.
Looks like fun.

The completely original characters will always be good. Capcom isn't constrained by previous design, and can give them moves based on all their years of fighting game experience. Instead of fitting old styles within the new game mechanics, they can design the new characters around whatever gameplay changes they've made.

I dislike the select screen update...its just a replica of the old street fighter games..i mean if your going to updated SF4 to SSF4 then go all the way, dont down grade because the old SF4 select screen look better, more modern , and is more visual and appealing to the viewer eyes

I love the new select screen, it's not generic and bland like the last one's "Black background with red highlights" and this time it actually brings in a sense of nostalgia mixed with evolution. Plus, I like the horizontal layout better than the old vertical one. It makes it seem more accessible, and at the same time, more expanded.

Basically the elements I see to reinforce my conviction are the strong shadow on the Dudley picture, the spiky Makoto hair, and the bandana and scarf for Ibuki.
If you look closely I think you can see those elements all represented in the blackened out portraits.

Even if they don't do a similar appearance, I'm expecting a similar move set, since the game is still low on grappler numbers (which would also be why it's unlikely to bring in Alex at the same time, which upsets me a bit, but is logical). On the good side, a Darun-like move set would be fairly balanced and fun to play on the SF4 engine.

that RLWFY seems to be trying to deny this list a little too much? Seems to be coming out way too accurate for it to be anything except a leak.
If you were Capcom, and trying to release stuff gradually to keep the hype engine going, wouldn't you try to do some damage control if someone leaked everything early? RLWFY would be that damage control, designed to annoy and seed distrust, so that people still believe anything is possible...
So, either the list comes true, and we know this as fact. Or the list is proven false, and RLWFY is vindicated.

I don't know why there was any hype on how cool the character select screen was going to look, when it looks terrible. I never had a problem with the ssf2 sf3 or st4 character select. I would go with any of those any day than this garbage. If they make the circles into squared boxes on the characters, then we would be in business. You know like the ssf2 look. Classic look. Or use the circles but in the 3rd strike diagonal like look. Like capcom vs snk 2.
Besides that, the ryu and ken image is nice quality, but it does look like they're about to kiss. Way to close and the facial expressions don't exactly help the case. The same goes for the stage select screen. I liked the original format in the stf4 release. But yes, I do want to see those old stages with their nostalgic themes. Best gaming music was stf2 music. Except dhalsim's theme. That sh*t is annoying.
The announcer at first sounded cool, but now he sounds too I don't know...but it's annoying now. I could deal with 3rd strike or CvsSnk2 guy's. I can't wait to buy this bad boy, but 2 ultras are necessary. The variation makes it all the difference.

-Vintage old skool music with remix versions.
-Old school stages in 3D will make all the difference.
-New characters are perfectly fine now.
-Change select screen circles to squared boxes, or diagonal circles like 3rd strike format.
Main intro and Menu music has to be some Street Fighter like, up beat remix, to pump you up before you play.
If all of this is hit, this will be the most sold and best game for 2010. At least a heavy contender!

Im quite sure that ibuki is in the top right, and Dudley in the middle, resembles his 3S portrait. However, Im not too sure about the one on the right. It has spiky hair.....GARUDA?!......Nah... He wouldnt fit in anyways.

nah remember that lame gamespot "demo" a couple days ago? guy was beating up on ken and his ultra meter didn't go from roman numeral I to II. i guess that means selectable ultras. plus, you have to have seen the beginning of Juri's other ultra (the one where she licks her lips). Tbh if Hakan would've been in the game then I don't see why they didn't put his portrait next to Juri (you can make the same 'break down' if you move his portrait).
And both Seth and Gouken are also new to SF4.
Akuma could be put in the SSF2(T) group.
So, I think the SF3-rumored characters are true but I think the Hakan-thing might be off.
I won't be suprised if we see Rolento after all..(Didn't Ono say he wanted Rolento in SF4? - He got the other 2 from FF,so,why not him..?)
But I wouldn't mind seeing Hakan tho.
I can see Capcom giving info about Hakan and videos for about 3 months..

Nothing against SFIII, but even if they don't make the cut, they will FOR SURE be in SSFIVTurbo, much like the rest of the SFII cast was in Alpha 3. That, and if it were SFIII box, why is it rectangle shaped? The other catagories are boxed evenly, same goes for the Bosses being rectangular. Why?

Adon and Rose: Alpha1: Rectangle. Here's where it gets weird.
You could add Akuma/Gouki to the SSFII cast, cause he came in for Hyper(but it still counts) and you got:Boxed category. Gouken though...I consider him a new character, cause...well he is a new SFIV character. But he's been a parady since SFII, and for the sake of argument, you got yourself 6 characters tha make up SSFII category, making it boxed.
Now, Shawdowloo. Add Seth to the group: Shadowloo: Boxed. The thing here is that Juri should be next to Seth and you would have 6 character BOXED Shadowloo group. The real reason Juri is with the World Warriors is because of the group being 8, and CAPCOM had to make the Character Select Board an even 36, so she got added for some confounded reason. That leaves us to the SFIV boxed category. If anything, they should added new characters to this category.
So what it comes down to....meaningless, fun, speculation thats trying to get away from the SFIII fanboy-ism of those categories. Again...who ever doesn't get added to the roster in SSFIV, will sure as hell get in SSFIVTurbo, so I don't really care. We all know SF comes in 3s.

Dude...we all know it's coming. 2 years...TOPS. Again, who ever didn't get what they wanted, the 3rd iliteration will have it. You'll see 45, maybe 50 characters, by the next game. 3 Ultras(If the choice of Ultras even in SSFIV). You name it....Capcom will have it perfected by then. Thats why Alpha 3 and 3rd Strike were praised on release: they had everything down by then. Characters, options, music(hit or miss), etc.

...There are still arguments over this? The entire leaked list has proven 100% true so far, and this screen leaves exactly enough spaces to fit in the only characters on that list who haven't been confirmed yet. The same list even leaked Juri before any of her character concept had been released publicly at all. I think you're kidding yourself if you expect those empty spots to be anyone but Makoto, Dudley, Ibuki, and Hakan. And Ibuki's practically been confirmed already anyway (all the screenshots with the kunai--no other SF character uses kunai), so we know there's SF3 representation in Super SF4. After zooming in in photoshop and changing some light and contrast settings, here's what I can tell :
Left character has got glasses. Looks more like a girl (60%)
Middle ? really can't tell, don't even know if it's a female or male character. It could be anyone, really.
Right : obviously Ibuki. We clearly see her ninja face-outfit.
And the alone character at right is male for sure. He has got a really huge face and kinda like mister T haircut lol. seems to be hakan.

i am so pissed i accidently broke my sf4 disc arrghhhh! i hope my save data will be enough for whatever xtra shiite u get for still having sf4 i have some complaints i only got the game septemberish and the thing is with every other sf game even 3 ive been a decent player but i consistently lose to wack tactics like some kid beat me spamming kens hk i know how to counter that junk and holding back is still block but it just wont block sometimes like every third kick crazy i think this was articticly a huge breakthrough totally sold sf in 3d for me which wasn't really an issue i still play my old ex2plus disc when 4 pisses me off...crap now i wont get any more practice in until ssf comes out and ill get trapped with fadc juggles oh hell at least it'll be with my favorite characters now guy and adon i look forword to finding more players in the psnrooms sometimes i would wait a long time for anyone and sometimes no one would play at all that just leaves playing the com and thats no fun without a good story and whats up with not counting dropping out as a loss! three matches in a row this happened very frustrating when waiting so long for players in the first place~! basically i struggly to find reasons to enjoy this one capcom let me down. But i love sf and capcom i hope sf5 has a guard crash or crush system or even both ha put it on hp+hk and change taunt back to start or select no more eternal hado turtles i got mad respect for people who rape with blanks cammy and honda even if its me at least it's not the same turtle hado/tiger bs and the online matches are way too serious we all need to lighten up a bit and have fun with our sf again.

the middle is most clear and the pic is from the front i can see a masked figure so its Ibuki on our right is Makoto look at the knot of her scarf from our righ next to the end of the blurry circle is the hardest to identify and last on our left is Dudley look at the figure it have too many lines to be a young character

I just got an insider's tip on the new characters...Its not going to be Makoto, Ibuki, and Dudley. Actually, it will be Eagle, Birdie and Geki from the original SF. Hakan is the character in the Alpha section on the far right.

from the ( ??? section area )displayed on pic 6 - the shadows look different from that pic and pic 11.
The middle shadow on pic 6 & 11 look like Dudley IMO but the shadow lines are different but i still see Dudley jest at different angles.
The Right shadow of the ??? section on pic 6 looks totally blurred but on pic 11 i think i clearly see Ibuki
The left shadow in the ??? section on pic 6 kinda looks like Sean or Urien to me.But on pic 11 i cant really make anything out of it.
So iv seen enough to believe that Ibuki is in this.

Seriously guys i don't see why some of you are still speculating or even guessing which characters will be in? The rumor list was SPOT ON when it came to all other characters plus the total number of new characters. We already know for sure, 100%, that Ibuki is in unless some are still in denial. There is no way this Hakan guy is "just a rumor" cause the description of Juri was very accurate "evil asian girl working for Seth"? Hello! And now what, the guy who gave us the list just felt like tossing in an arab/turkish wrestler who is obsessed with oil just for fun?

Hm ok there is this list yeah... Lets compare it to something else: It is Sunday, you were partying last night and drank a lot of alcohol. Now it is the morning after, you have a bad headache and you gotta vomit. What is wrong with you? The easy answer you drank a lot of alcohol (This is the rumor list, the possibility that this is right, is like 99%). Other explanations are for example brain cancer or an aneurysm (those would be the fail of the rumor list, very low possibility that it is right). (this is the medicine way of trying to explain :P)
Now that there still is a chance that the rumor list fails, the possibility of it being accurate is much higher.
But i think the rumor list fail guy just wants to tell you it might be wrong, but he/she/it uses the wrong words for it ~~

We don't know for sure if Ono kept the SF III look of Makoto exactly as it was - she will be a child here after all lol. With SF2 and Alpha characters it was a slightly different story, they wanted to keep their trademark looks cause they where more well known to people but SF III had a much smaller fan base and i know many people who are not familiar with ANY SF III characters. So i wouldn't be shocked if Makoto's design changed a little - maybe she is wearing diapers this time?

Dudley ends up in middle, he has 3 chicks at all sides, Ibuki Makoto and Viper makes it look balanced in character screen at one perspective, hes a gentalman surrounded by ladies. think about it.

everyone keeps thinking the 3rd Strike characters are Ibuki, Dudley and Makoto but I'm thinking Elena's in there. I never liked her character but we have an already confirmed Africa stage done and look at the similarities between the new stage and her 3rd Strike stage. Can't be coincidence!

#453 I understand what your saying but Guy and Cody were already on the character list so a Metro city stage did not confirm Rolento at all. Africa being in the game for no reason at all is just suspect. Capcom confirmed that the new stages are character specific. India for Dhalsim, Korea for Juri, Metro City for Guy, Cody then Africa for who? T.Hawk? Just saying is all.

Actually 3s kept sf alive for 10 years. 10 years!! Capcom didnt do anything else with the franchise only because they focused on other ips and other companies were coming up with a lot of 3d fighting games. I highly doubt this is an accidental leak. There's no reason for the 4 blank characters to be missing otherwise. Either Capcom put out this "leak" on purpose, or this is something we'll be seeing soon anyways.

No, SF3 pretty much killed the SF series. Not because it's a bad game, but because it had no appeal at all to the vast majority of SF players, what to say of other gamers or even non-gamers.
The FEW people who played it for the last 10 years are essentially the same who were playing it in the late nineties. Saying this is "keeping alive" the SF name is like saying E.T. is a great game because people keep talking about it after almost 30 years.

Being a charge character doesn't mean you wouldn't be able to get in well. Look at Bison and Rog both can play excellent rush down games and get in on their opponent.

but bison, guile etc. can combo into their charge moves.. what use does it have to jump in, start a small combo with normal hits, wait a sec until opponent leaves hitstun and then do grab motion with back forward punch or whatever

I would also like to add that your current rank will probably be meaningless in the new game.
Sure they might reward you somehow, or also post your original SFIV rank...but everyone will get a clean slate for SSFIV.
Why you ask? It is because ranking depends on going up against ANY character in that game that the opponent choses.
Since SFIV did not have characters such as Adon, Guy, Juri, T.Hawk, Dee Jay, and Cody...why should you automatically have a G1/SG rank if you did not go against these characters aswell?
SFIV rank is based on how you did facing 25 different characters at your opponent's chosing.
SSFIV rank will be based on going against 35 different characters at your opponent's chosing

Akuma has arguably the best roundhouse in the game, can cancel ultra out of normals, has a vortex, good mix-up game, great teleport, good hit-confirm combos, and a kara super. Did I mention air fireballs? How about one of the best offensive-pressuring movelists in the game?

Is it me or is Akuma highly underrated these days. IMO Akuma is the 3rd best character in the game next to Sagat and Ryu. Sure Rufus is up there too but he really just fishes for damage so its more of a guessing game if you can punish with big damage. Akuma on the other hand just shuts your offense down and then when he gets ultra or super its even worse.

seriously anyone who tries to make any sort of picture out of the three empty spots is an idiot. You can dream about alex, oro, or who ever... no matter who you want in this game, your mind could fit that picture of them in those silhouettes. It's so sad to me that people actually spend time trying to figure out how the pixels line up, and who they "could" be... what a waste of time... no matter how much you beg, or how much time you waste... the characters are already picked... s--t in one hand hand, wish in the other, see which one fills up faster...as far as the other screens, everything looks awesome, except the barbed wire in the foreground in the main menu picture. looks kinda cheesy to me. To everyone that says "looks like ken and ryu are about to make out"... send your fantasies to penthouse... ryu is clearly holding ken's gi, and is about to throw him or punch him in the face... All in all everything looks on par. just think of how much better it will be ina few months!!! I think he is not as good as he was in previous STF games and this RYU incarnation is probably the second best ever and I think the graphic engine helps that out alot cus no one cared about juggling until now back in third strike thats all in the game so maybe we can get a balance on the next version

I think that Blanka and M.Bison were severely overpowered and they should be nerfed to oblivion. They should give Sagat faster startup on his DP. Sagat is already powerful but he needs to be played by a really skilled player to do his FADC right.
Also, they said on the stream that Adon recieved a new move, called Jaguar Tornado. I wonder what's that all about...

Akuma wasn't overpowered in Alpha he was great but not overpowered I liked Ken in Alpha cuz he had ranged attacks and damaging Alpha counters and he had his kicks all of them but maybe people play Alpha 3 which was broken doesn't count and in third strike Ken was top tier and RYU and Akuma had a huge hill to climb to become top tier lol

Any info on new Ultras/specials? I am def hyped. No matter who the last group of characters they add this is a day 1 purchase for me. I am excited to get the finished product in my hand, and see all the changes and additions that have gone into this.

1st is definitely Dudley. you can see that by changing the contrast slightly. put it in photoshop, go to image--> adjustments--> levels and raise the low a bit while lowering the middle ones. you can see the mustache on the first pic. however i'm confused on the other 2. i believe I'm seeing Ibuki in the middle but all the other people see her as the 3rd one. i might be wrong.
and guys... Alex is the lead character from 3. He appears as the star there, i don't believe they will just plug him in this one like from nowhere. that list seems to be correct. it even had the new character names inside.
and Makoto fits in story-wise. I would love to see Oro from SF3, but again, it just doesn't fit.
i would love to see Shin Akuma or Evil Ryu too, but maybe in a next installment. all the other SF titles (2,Alpha,3,EX) had 3 main releases :)
the main request is:
WE NEED RYU's stage from SF2!!!!!!!!!!!

We heard rumors of Juri prior to her being confirmed and we have heard rumors of Hakan. Juri is placed right among all the good guys when we know she's a bad/evil Char. That spot could literally be anyone but to be honest it's likely it's Hakan.
Lemme clear something else up. Chronologically speaking 3S is the last in the series and SSF4 is a year after SF4 so 3S is still the last in the series because Ken already has a Son called Mel in 3s but in SF4 he's about to have his son. Ono even said SF4 story line was set in between 3s and SF2.
Also, according to each 3S story line, there are only 6 characters that can be in SSF4 for it to make sense. Those characers are Dudley, Makoto, Ibuki, Elena, Yun and Yuang. PS Hugo's in the background so we know he didn't make it

...not a news for me really...but if this all true i can't capture its logic...i mean if its true about Shadow/Charlie character, then why Capcom is taking this info down ? ...if everything that not said by Seth Killian's or Ono mouth got leaked in internet is infact fake why select characters screen and stages and vs screens haven't got taken down aswell ? ...i just try to think out of my box...

...but i guess it would be fair logically to believe this news is true rather then fake, because characters select screen is proved to be real, because we've seen it from trailers when they tested stuff, they had bunch of Xboxes and actual games on the tables, it was all happening on our eyes, when one screen followed by another menu screen then select screen then vs screen we've all seen it...we could see it from distance after all...that is why pretty strong to believe in...but why Cpacom haven't done anything to put this info down...it spreaded all around internet, first at famitsu community, then at IGn, then here etc...an no tries to put it down ? ...why they put down info about Shadow character almost first day its got its way into famitsu community ?...

Why on earth would you want Shin Akuma and Evil Ryu, let alone "more fireballs"?
Evil Ryu is nearly an Akuma clone, let alone gone after the Alpha Series since he completely rejected the satsui no hadou.
Shin Akuma is just foul broken in every game he's been in. We don't want all 9-1 or 10-0 tier matchups, do we?
Fireball spamming should be more discouraged in a game like SSF4, unless you are one of those turtle-based players who will spam fireballs and keep distance away from players FTW. They already said they are making the game "more aggressive."

@690 but they didn't say anything of pace changing...pace of the game won't change only how players react, some of the moves something will add, more ultras etc...different focus attack system that i think is tadan saving (how they call it multi-leveled focus attack)...etc...but no significant changes made to the gameplay mechanics, just a bit more aggressive nothing more...but i agree with you on Evil ryu and Evil Akuma whole thing though...enough of that clones already, they make the game boring and less original...

Dudes the story has to make sense. There are only 6 Chars from 3S that could make it. Those 6 are Dudley Makoto Ibuki Elena Yun and Yuang. Gill and Urien don't stand a chance coz the story is about s.i.n not g project(urien) or illuminati(Gill) so those 2 don't stand a chance. Any Char who revolves around Urien don't stand a chance such as tweleve or necro because we'd have to know what happens after 3S which we don't but 3S takes place after SSF4. Why do you think Ken already has a Son called Mel in 3S but his son is about to be born in SSF4? Ono even said SF4 takes place in between 3S and SF2

Oro can't be in it because he meets akuma for the first time in 3S. Alex can't be in it because 3S is his debut so it's not possible. Sean can't be in it (thank god coz he's so crap) coz ken trains him alongside his Son Mel but Mel is only 0 years old in SSF4 so Ken can't meet Sean just yet. Remy can't be in it because he is pursuing his father in 3S so if it's guile or charlie then it wont make sense coz he would have seen them in SSF4 and not be searching in 3S.
Q might stand a chance but Ibuki and makoto are rivals so their rival battles will tie together easier. As for Hugo.... he's in the background of metro city nuff said.

The story of SF4 and SSF4 doesn't make sense as is, it's like a time-loop. When they introduced Sakura in SF4 as the same person she was in SFA3, resurrect Bison and Gouken and say "they survived" when it was stated they were dead, then we already knew story went to hell.
The only person that would make sense off of the roster would be Dudley, Remy (given a plot twist), Hugo (ewww no more grapplers please), and Q. Everybody else ruins the timeline and would feel like they are "just for play."

character select with circles and map of worlds looks bland.sf4 was much better..needs colour and circles need to change.looks outdated.also if they added moving plane and country annocers.like sf2 had would be nice.

hey, i eat some good hash, and I heard the Goukens daughter rumor at a tournament and at an arcade in riverside,ca. (two separate places) I didn't make up this rumor at all. My 360 and my controllers broken and I haven't been able too fix it yet so here I am at this post dikin around. I own like every street fighter game and collect all this memorabilia for like the last decade so I'm interested in new characters and such.

man i just think campcom's biggest mistake was the shoryuken, with 3 start up frames, like 1000 active frames and 10 frames to punish, which isnt enough when it pushes you 3 miles away

there is so much going on with this game. Ibuki, Makoto Dudley and Hakan. Then there is a rumor of Shadow a.k.a. Charlie making an appearance.... I also noticed that in the new game footage of Cody vs guy on you tube, you can clearly see that Hugo from 3rd strike is in the background..... are there gonna be unlockable characters as well?.... Capcom is gonna throw us for a loop for sure!

Everyone!!! The new character selection is not a fake, there is a video on youtube that I can't remember how I got there but it shows the character select on a actual screen with the cusors moving and everything, the character selct is so not fake, also the ssfiv japan site has the character select layout as well (the round circles with the heads in them!!!)
Also, the character select black heads are NOT the outlines of the chars that are coming in, cos remember, this is just in development!!!
