Hori's new EX2 Turbo fight pad

For those of you who prefer pads, Hori has a controller coming out called the Horipad EX2 Turbo for the XBox 360.

The analog stick has three sensitivity settings, normal, narrow, and wide. It's got turbo buttons and the usual features you'd expect.

It's set to hit Japan on Dec. 17, 2009 and will retail for about $44 USD. Most import sites, like Play-Asia.com, should have this product with time if you really want a different kind of controller and you don't like the Mad Catz FightPad.

If this comes to the USA, I will buy it for sure.

The square restrictor on the arcade stick is gay.

@So... than change it to octogate then o_0 ... i wonder if this is common ground ?

IMO, if the D-pad is actually good, then this is worth it. Otherwise, just use the 360 controller.

Posted by hmm on December 17, 2009 at 1:02 a.m. #5

fck turbo! but i'd love this pad for PS3 with 6 buttons on the main facet of the controller

Posted by cuttyb87 on December 17, 2009 at 1:06 a.m. #6

Its an x-box only pad huh?

Posted by Dave on December 17, 2009 at 1:08 a.m. #7

ps3 has a better d-pad, so its still useless

Posted by Firegod on December 17, 2009 at 1:08 a.m. #8

i dont mind the madcatz fight pad at all, i think it owns

Posted by what on December 17, 2009 at 1:10 a.m. #9

cool another controller that lets people use the turbo fa**ot button

Posted by Woaa on December 17, 2009 at 2:09 a.m. #12

THAT'S SOME UGLY PIECE OF SHIET.

Probably will be worthless too :)

Posted by chickenwings on December 17, 2009 at 2:31 a.m. #13

they really need to stop puting turbo buttons on these things. Tournies dont allow them so theres no point. I was suprised that they put them on the madcatz sticks.

Posted by Ikaruga on December 17, 2009 at 3:02 a.m. #14

you do realize arcade sticks aren't solely used for fighting games! Schmups, beat em ups can benefit from the turbo function.

#13: "they really need to stop puting turbo buttons on these things. Tournies dont allow them so theres no point. I was suprised that they put them on the madcatz sticks."

You do understand that 99.999% of players will never go anywhere near a tournament and couldn't care less what happens in them, right?

Like a fighting pad but gayer with smaller buttons.

Posted by Cool on December 17, 2009 at 4:45 a.m. #17

I have a Hori stick (even though I like using it for SC and DOA the most...those games feel built for it)-and the fact that they're making a controller might be something I'll look into.

...anything to take me back to the DC days of the D-pad...not the 360's second analog stick.

Posted by skid5jack on December 17, 2009 at 4:57 a.m. #18

@ rofl
Dude you are so right !!!
I am getting this for sure

Posted by boobee cakes on December 17, 2009 at 6:05 a.m. #19

This is actually a pretty smart design. It's tailored for fighting games, with the 6 face buttons and (hopefully) good D-pad, but also does not alienate itself by having the triggers, bumbers, analog sticks, etc.

Might buy.

Posted by Jcool813 on December 17, 2009 at 6:14 a.m. #20

if this was out before i would have gotten it so i can play my 360 friends but now i picked up an arcade stick so it doesn't matter where i play.

Posted by fadc with pad on December 17, 2009 at 6:38 a.m. #21

LOL anyone can fadc. My 8 year old cousin I'm sure could beat most of you that cant

Posted by sigh on December 17, 2009 at 6:42 a.m. #22

just get the fightpad for the 360.

Posted by Billy G on December 17, 2009 at 6:52 a.m. #23

@Dave
PS3 pad is better? They're both total garbage. The 360 and PS3 pads are unbelievably bad for fighting games.

The PS3 pad is so close to the actual controller, that it's incredibly uncomfortable, and the 360 pad lacks precision.

Also, people, buy a stick.

Posted by al2k on December 17, 2009 at 7:06 a.m. #24

looks good, wish it was totally programmable.

Posted by kool on December 17, 2009 at 7:36 a.m. #27

i may have to get one of these - looks interesting. i hope the dpad is good.

I wonder if ps3 will get a similar controller with same design too.

Posted by nameless on December 17, 2009 at 7:41 a.m. #28

anybody remember the Turbo Touch 360 back in the day?

Posted by @Slap Dat H03 on December 17, 2009 at 7:49 a.m. #29

If you need turbo to win with Honda or any other character, you are a SCRUB. Do you think Mike Ross needs turbo to win with his Honda?

Posted by Unsure on December 17, 2009 at 9 a.m. #30

Is this better, worse or equal than the Street Fighter IV Fightpad?

I'm going to buy a fightpad and I'm unsure on what to buy.

Posted by Frank Fresh on December 17, 2009 at 9:33 a.m. #31

I am going to get this for sure. I hate Arcade sticks.

Posted by Saraphan80 on December 17, 2009 at 10:09 a.m. #32

The Hori EX 1's d-pad is superb. Hopefully the EX 2's will be as well. Still, as it's clearly designed for fighting games, I wish they'd simply forgo the sticks entirely and move the d-pad to a more comfortable position.

Posted by eventhubs takes anal on December 17, 2009 at 10:40 a.m. #33

This pad would of been better if the buttons where bigger like the madcatz fightpad.

Posted by ¿? on December 17, 2009 at 10:45 a.m. #34

I just wish they flipped the position of the analog and the d-pad. So 2D fighters are the one situation where the DualShock's design makes any sense.

@30 You mean MadCatz's, right? A friend of mine owns the PS3/PC version. The receiver works horribly on the PS3 (most frequent problem is charges being interrupted), but curiously it's ok on the PC. Personally, I just don't like having 6 front buttons (I mean, the biggest problem in pads is that you have four buttons for one thumb... and these fight pads just make it worse), so I'd definitely go with this one. At least it still has 4 shoulder buttons.

That is the UGLIEST thing i ever seen!!! That D-pad is HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Guano on December 17, 2009 at 11:39 a.m. #36

Turbo users are losers.

Posted by AKA Skinny Pimp on December 17, 2009 at 11:48 a.m. #37

Pads vs Sticks lol..It's just like National League Baseball versus American League Baseball.

Capcom should never have brought Street Fighter to home consoles without an AFFORDABLE arcade stick in the first place. But they were so greedy and eager to make some of that money Nintendo and Sega were making at the time..So, you've got a generation that's grown up using "fightpads" because they've never actually played on or even seen an arcade machine and you've got the elitist fans who live in cities with arcades who snicker at them.

Posted by h1tm0nl33 on December 17, 2009 at 12:14 p.m. #38

Anythings better than the regular 360 remote the only fighting game that even works on that Sh1t is D.O.A and that is saying something.

Posted by Violent Lucidity on December 17, 2009 at 12:31 p.m. #39

I will purchase this just because.

Posted by 45 bucks? on December 17, 2009 at 12:37 p.m. #40

h3II that's cheaper than other controllers, I'd buy one of these and use it for all kinds of other games.

Posted by Fact on December 17, 2009 at 2:01 p.m. #41

only noobs use controllers.

customs are also for noobs...especially the one that change the attack buttons layout...example making one button work for focus cancel or EX moves.....its a fact no reason to try and argue.

Posted by padlover on December 17, 2009 at 3:49 p.m. #42

need this layout for the ps3 pad

Posted by Ro on December 17, 2009 at 5:47 p.m. #43

I wish these controllers would lay the fu.ck off on turbo. Outside of that, it looks pretty decent.

Posted by Phyuck Yuu on December 17, 2009 at 7:34 p.m. #44

@#7 - ps3 has a better dpad? you can barely feel (if any) motion on that pad bcuz its built so close to the controller. The 360's dpad is better bcuz it isnt seperated into four little sections (up, down, left, right), as a result you feel more of the motions making easier to pull off moves. I do just fine with viper doing her fierce feint fierce combo, and even pulling off multiple seismos. For THIS dpad, not too sure, maybe if it had the original dpad from the 360 i'd buy it, but for now a regular 360 dpad is just fine.

Posted by @44 on December 18, 2009 at 12:23 a.m. #45

You actually prefer to play viper on the 360 dpad as opposed to analog stick? I tried using her with dpad but it just isn't as smooth. IMO if your not using a stick analog is next best option for viper. But I guess if you can do all that effectively then dpad isn't as bad as I thought. hmmm

Great, now the commenters from youtube are here.

Posted by feh on December 19, 2009 at 12:08 p.m. #47

@okjk, they've been here for a while judging from most previous article comments.

Looks interesting. I just hope the dpad works well. This one reminds me of the Dreamcast's d-pad which could have been better.
