Yoga Yoga Yoga-ooowai-wai-wai
YOGA!
That dance he does post win is still hilarious, even tho we don't see the after match super one with the yoga flame @ the end too since he didn't win. (Best one is in SF EX series)
Also, who wrote this weird thing for Dhalsim's Yoga Flame on urbandictionary:

Epic match. Almost as classic as Valle vs. Daigo in 3S.

daigo seemed outclassed, but he seemed to get back into it.

I hoped Iyo could take the victory but that was indeed an epic match
Posted by Thwomp on April 19, 2009 at 2:17 a.m. #5
Awesome match.
One thing that stood out as odd though was the end of round 3. Seemed almost noobish to try and do a wakeup overhead on Sim when he has a full Super meter.
The last round, though, was just 100% no-more-screwing-around awesome.

i agree with snorlax watching a couple of his vids from before this tourney i thought sf4 wasnt his best game, but i guess he mustve played religiously to get back into it. my daigo moment was when he was baiting iyo to hit him with his limps and smacked iyo with a psychic dp into super i was like wow.
a little dissapointed that puungko didnt do that good because his vids are ridonkulus.
Posted by Meh on April 19, 2009 at 2:50 a.m. #8
I want to see Justin main a character that can shoot a projectile just so that he can actually set the pace of the match. Ryu will always have advantages over Rufus because of that.
Posted by benjibean on April 19, 2009 at 2:53 a.m. #9
are the home console characters banned from tournys didnt see them at the start of match?
Posted by classy on April 19, 2009 at 2:57 a.m. #10
dam awesome.. but i can't help but say sf4 is lacking in the WTF moments compared to the 3s.. or even lesser sf games.. either the focus needs to be tweeked or allowed to be done in the air.. or my best idea.. canceling only uses 1 bar.. imagin how crazy that would be.. really long hard combos... that be sweet
one more thing... get rid of that stupid damage handicap when the combo gets long its ridiculous.. its like this game discourages combos
if this is as epic as it gets.. then it wont surpass the daigo vs justin match with the parrying...
and yes poongko makes it exciting even tho he lost.. i like him cuz he can pull out long ass combos using 2 cancels like its nothing to him..
Posted by Dynicksty on April 19, 2009 at 3:01 a.m. #11
jeeeeez they make the game seem 10x faster
Posted by classy on April 19, 2009 at 3:07 a.m. #12
one more thing, i love poongko use of focus attacks, his combos made the crowd go wild, now that he sees what hes up against... i think he will come back stronger and better..
Posted by Wooo on April 19, 2009 at 3:13 a.m. #13
Poongko didn't do as bad as the summary made it out to be. This site made it seem like he just sat in the corner while Iyo, Daigo, and Justin wailed on him. Even in losing Poongko is exciting to watch.
And I have noticed that he doesn't throw out much fireballs, unlike Daigo. Who likes to throw them out like it's going out of style. Even when Poongko hits a light srk, he doesn't use a EX fireball to get more damage.
Anyways, I am looking forward to seeing more of him in the future. I think that these defeats were actually the best thing for him. Because if he's truly a real competitor, he will learn from his mistakes and get even better. I still think he'll be better than Daigo. Maybe if he wasn't so frantic.
Posted by classy on April 19, 2009 at 3:17 a.m. #14
i agree with u wooo, daigo is pretty boring compared to poongko in a game that already looks boring as a spectator sport,
they made it seem like he suck but i watched and he was hella entertaining.. daigo doesn't or wont use focus attacks effectively..
win or loose im still a poongko fan!

poongko wasn't using FAs effectively like you say, he just constantly does it which sometimes leaves him open, even in one match he FAd when he didn't have the life to support the hit, I believe it was in the iyo match. Either way daigo does the FA well, he showed it against iyo, he just doesn't spam it like poongko, like everyone says poongko is constantly moving and attacking and yes it's fun to watch but to anyone watching it's easy to tell he leaves himself open a lot of times which makes the others be able to move in to combo him. Normally it would overwhelm people to see such a frantic style but these guys are all pros and can spot openings and capitalize on them. Either way they're all good and hopefully they all learned something and evo should be awesome.
Posted by Miyagi on April 19, 2009 at 4:10 a.m. #17
I wonder why Poongko didn't use his best character Seth. Though it was a still a good match with Daigo.
Posted by Guy on April 19, 2009 at 4:17 a.m. #18
Poongko didn't use Seth because Ryu is his main. Also none of the hidden characters were open. Maybe not because they were banned or anything, but probably because none of the participants were going to use them anyway.
Posted by Jem on April 19, 2009 at 4:20 a.m. #19

Jem> are you saying Daigo is turtling? If so, I think you're wrong there. There's a huge difference between turtling and playing strategically/defensively...
I personally love to watch the crazy combos that Poongko throws out. However, Daigo is just so good in adapting to an opponent and an amazing clutch player (double EX tatsu in the corner)... a true champion in my opinion.
Posted by Jem on April 19, 2009 at 6:37 a.m. #23
@ Eduard. I got a bit carried away. Your dead right. Daigo is just SAFE AS not a turtle. In comparison to Poongko he semi is turtleing but that just playing smart..... so smart hes now the world champ.

Poongko got rocked by everyone there, Daigo rocked everyone that was there.
How is Poongko better than Daigo ? -_-

Poongko is way to careless, he plays like a random at times. He needs to tighten up his game alot, Daigo just walked all over him.
Posted by SSJ3X on April 19, 2009 at 8:34 a.m. #30
Best match of the World Finals goes to Iyo and Daigo. That match was extremely well played out.
Overall I was highly impressed at these matches. Poongko did a good job overall, but we now know that Daigo's Ryu outmatches him in terms of skill. The same goes for Justin ousting both the Korean and Japanese National Champion, he did a fine job with Rufus...
But man, he looked like a joke contender against Daigo. 4-0? Good grief...
Kinda wished they could make a real World Tournament, but then again we still have EVO coming up. I would love to see Poongko participate with Daigo, Mago, Momochi,Ed Ma, Gootecks, Justin Wong, and Mike Ross, Alex Valle and Ultra David so we can see some ridiculous match ups.
Posted by loldotcom on April 19, 2009 at 9:57 a.m. #31
@Jem
Maybe if you're new to the game.
If you can appreciate the subtle aspects of the game, any successful pro player is fun to watch, even a good dhalsim such as Iyo.
If I need to be amused by long combos and whatnot, I'd watch Tekken.
Posted by nomnomnom on April 19, 2009 at 10:38 a.m. #32
It's a shame Iyo didn't beat J. Wong, that final would have been so much better..

If you think Diago destroyed Iyo, you're on crack. Simple as that.

but he won, he still gots it.
Posted by anon on April 19, 2009 at 11:18 a.m. #35
At the end of the Poongko VS Justin vid it looks like Poongko was using a MadCatz TE stick. I heard that's the same style of stick (Japanese) that he used at the Korean finals and he wasn't doing his best on them. That being said, he still pulled of some hard combos and everybody versus him earned their wins. I just thought that it was worth pointing out.
And what's up with everybody standing up and playing? They should've at least gotten bar-stools or something, lol. But overall I'm sure that GameStop and EVO threw an awesome and well-organized event.
Posted by anon on April 19, 2009 at 11:20 a.m. #36
NOTE: I could be wrong about Poongko using a MadCatz TE stick. Note that I said it LOOKED like he was. Don't take my word as fact.

I was impressed with the way Diago handeled his match-ups.
He was able to capletalize on every mistake made playing ryu with some much skill.
Honestly, to see these guys go at it like this is very motivating and I am happy for all of these pros because it wasn't a walk in the park to get were they are.
Justin-if you read this comment you are still number one in the US and nobady can take that nice trophy from you.(Good Job)

poongko did better then justin against daigo.. he still knew to the scene where as everyone else are veterans.. give him time..
and this has to be said.. every single pro match was stagnant and the same.. until poongko came along and showed us what sf4 could be. and that it could be fancy.. esp with focus counters.. so that in itself deserves credit, and he is still a pro

I didn't expect any less....
Daigo is not flashy, he just flat out wins....clutch.
He destroyed Wong...
One more thing, I don't understand why Iyo likes to stay in the corner so much....he's still nasty though.
Posted by Igotdembombs on April 19, 2009 at 2:48 p.m. #46
Too bad Shoryuken.com already ruined it for me :-( They put it right in the headline.
Amazing last match though! You would think they would have more matches for such a big event.
Posted by TaoKing on April 19, 2009 at 3 p.m. #47
I wonder why Justin did so bad against Daigo. Maybe it's just me, but he didn't seem to play the same.
I understand because Daigo is playing Ryu, he will always be able to control the pace of the match against Rufus who needs to get in your face to win. But I got this weird feeling that instead of Daigo winning it, Justin just lost it.
Posted by Edg3 on April 19, 2009 at 3 p.m. #48
Honestly I didn't want Justin to win nationals. He didn't even shake Daigo's hand after losing. Daigo got a bid to evo finals? I think but I forgot, and it was ruse after Justin Beat Poongko he started chanting USA. It's already rough for a high level player to keep playing after two losses, I believe seth annouced Poongko was crying. Honestly Justin's sportsmanship is non existent that's why I'd rather not have him as our national champion.
Also Classy the damage reduction is so the game is more friendly to all types of players this does discourage bigger combos but I've noticed EXs don't get reduced as much as seen by the back to back EX Tatsus by Daigo, and that 698 Chun Li combo that was posted here.
Posted by Edg3 on April 19, 2009 at 3:01 p.m. #49

i keep watching these videos... i cant stop. lol
I wish 'Ko hd won against Wong.. It was soooo close. Sh!t, id cry too if i knew that victory was so close. It was unexpected for Wong to pull 2 Ex Messiahs in a row.. but i think it was more outta desperation, he wanted to put the match away, cuz he knew how close it was.
And i am very dissapointed that Daigo raped Wong.. He didnt win a siingle round. I woulda loved to see the set drag in a bit longer is all..
Regardless, they all did good. Congrats to them all, they got farther in the tourney than i did.. lol

Posted by Mirror_Man on April 19, 2009 at 4:30 p.m. #55
@Edg3
Actually, I think Wong started that chant after he beat Iyo. He might have started another chant after he beat Poongko. I completely agree with you though. It would have been nice to have someone that would be a bit more modest and humble. Does anyone else find it a little embarrassing that he starts these USA chants, acting like a cocky jerk and then gets his a$$ handed to him by Daigo?
I thought Iyo was the best player there. Thats just my two cents though.

Just in a great player no doubt but Daigo's attitude and professionalism is what the gaming industry needs. Not some wanna-be gangster like Justin.

About "Mike Ross (E. Honda) vs. Justin Wong (Rufus) Final Match of Nationals":
What the heck Justin Wong was doing in the end of his first round against Mike Ross? He won the round and approached his opponent waving his arms. Looking kinda aggressive.

Wow awesome matches
@ the front page one I was wondering why Daigo was throwing random shoryukens, but then he caught Dhalsims stretchy arms with it and finished with an Ultra combo.
PS: props to capcom they went all out on the huge screen and stuff

I respect Iyo more than the beast also why? Check the latest tier list from japan http://i39.tinypic.com/2cs78ts.png
or check any SF4 tier list Dhalsim is mid-low and just as important importantly slow. I thought the last round was a joke between Iyo and Daigo.People talk about Justin's amazing reatcion time and Daigo's mind games justfiably so but can you imagine the reaction time and mind games you have to pull off with Dhalsim to compete at his level?
Posted by Ghouly on April 20, 2009 at 3:33 a.m. #68
OMG that justin is such a looser...
Can't stand those ridiculous playaz that keep congratuling themselves... I'm sure he does the same when he goes to the gent's.
It's really amazing. He just got rolled over by daigo, but what did he do ? jump in jump in jump in. Smart & nice, these are the wolrd championship dumb newbee.
He deserves nothing but pokes at the back of his head and being pushed right into walls.
Just erase this looser of SF4 history.
Nices matches from other Real Players, results don't matter, the way you play do.

why arnt the hidden characters allowed?
Posted by gospel_au on April 20, 2009 at 7:29 a.m. #70
Probably because the japs and koreans do not have as great of an understanding of those characters as their scene is based at the arcade where those characters do exist.
To let someone use a console character against the japanese or korean playing is putting them at a disadvantage as they are unfamilar with those characters and how to play against them etc.
Posted by mike on April 20, 2009 at 8:36 a.m. #71
everyone was good....but justin wong is a loser in the biggest form of the word....I like daigo's humbleness and the fact he didn't get all in his opponents face acting like some thug....I would respect him more if he was quieter or at least if he wold have won...but u know what is really funny its like they both represented the players....Daigo aka ryu quiet humble....justin = rufus fat antagonist lmao

what an outstanding match. Daigo really turned it on that last round. Iyo had some amazing combos but Daigo has the eye of the tiger lol
Posted by SSJ3X on April 20, 2009 at 6:41 p.m. #82
@.
The Korean and Japanese Tournaments were played in the arcades where only the 16 characters were made available at the time.
To ensure that it was the same way in the national tournament, you could only choose the original 16 characters as well. I don't remember seeing Akuma available in the previous tournaments, so thats probably their main reason.
Man... look at this wall, theres a lot of Justin Wong hate lol. Well I guess I can't blame ya'll, and I do love the reference that Wong is half of Rufus already lol.
I guess if, I was a top player, I'd be as humble as the other guys. I mean taunting is common, but if you're gonna do that, and then get roasted in the finals only to pretty much get off the stage quickly then yeh... Justin may have the national title under his belt, but he gets no respect from me because of his immature attitude.
@jleadership, this how he acts in Chinatown dude? and... do you have this game on PS3 or 360??
Posted by jleadership on April 20, 2009 at 7:23 p.m. #83
Both systems , but I really ony play on ps3 because of Tourney stick PS3 brooksHomey.
He is much better then me. He makes faces , Noises, and will use the same character as you to piss you off. Kinda felt like sluggin him, but thats his style He gets you out of your game. His boy Joe(The one that messed up the tourney by getting happy to early) is quiet.
I only started plying this game serious three months ago, this was last sep. I don't blow all of money at arcades like the sf2 days...
You can kinda say that he is my rival. He hangs outside looking for streetfighters. His chracter doesnt fit him at all.( It's just an act)

three months ago... almost when the game got released.
Honestly I'd like to get better at the game. Sometimes I feel that I can get better but theres this wall in front of me that I just can't shake, and although I've beaten people on the PS3 ( like NoMoneyDown who has like 12000BP )I can't even get pass 4000 lol. b4 that i thought it was pretty boring to watch even at the highs level.. very little WOW momments like in the 3's, actually sf4 b4 poongko looked mostly likes a sf2 turbo game

I have absolutely no respect for Justin Wong but I figure we need someone like him in the community, which kinda reminds me of Jeff Schaefer. I think that type of sportsmanship makes others wanna practice and participate more just so you can shut him up like Daigo did! Even though I also agree that I wish it was someone else with more maturity and respect to represent the US of A!

Well i guess i gotta put my 2 cents in!
Do you guys understand HYPE? I dont think Wong was that rude. Sure he could have had a bit more class, but come on!!!! Its the DAMN national finals, not to mention, your playing the worlds best players. I too get in people's faces when playing... Mind games... $hit talkin... HYPE! If many of you go to a big tourney, you know what i'm talking about. Besides, I believe he has a good/friendly relationship with Mike Ross, Iyo, Daigo.... You have to remember when playing this game. EVERYONE is your Rival!
If Poongko really did cry.... I belive it was all to overwhelming for him. He is breaking through to the Pro-Level and has probably never seen a crowd like that and got emotional. Lighten up guys! Besides. I have never seen any of you beat any of these guys on the video's.
p.s
Big props to all the people who made it to the Finals!
Also congrats to Justin, IYO, Poongko, and da BEAST!

By the way....
That comment I posted above this one is not to offend anybody in anyway!!! I am just trying to tell you guys to lay off Wong. I don't even know the guy, but i bet he has done far more for the Gaming Community Nation Wide than any of you guys crapping on him!
