Capcom discusses Final Fight characters, TvC and more
Capcom made some rounds again on the Capcom-Unity.com forums.
This time they discuss why Final Fight characters aren't in Street Fighter 4, the possibility of a Sega vs. game, and a few other things.
Here's the whole shebang.
Why can Final Fight characters be in a SF artbook but can't be in another SF game?
Seth: The reasons are mostly pretty simple, and don't have to do with FF's 20th anniversary.
Ono-san felt that SFIV was a return to the SF roots, and as such should focus on the original SF characters (as well as some SFIV-specific new challengers, of course). FF characters are a part of SF history if not at the center, and they did get a nod in the form of Zangief's alternate "Mike Haggar" outfit , but did not get added into the arcade release directly.
The artists and work featured in the UDON book really have nothing to do with SFIV specifically. It was comprised of fan contributions, so the best fan contributions in terms of style, etc. made the cut, regardless of what part of the SF-universe the characters came from. Neither Ono-san nor anyone else on the SFIV team has anything to do with the UDON book, but clearly they would not ask that FF characters be taken out--they felt merely that it was more important to focus on the core characters for the game itself right now, to keep it closely connected with its roots.
Would you guys like to do a next VS. game with SEGA?
Sven: One never knows. We have a lot on our plates at the moment with SSF2THDR, SF4 and TvC on the fighting front. We'll see what happens down the line.
Is it pretty much fair to give up hope that Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is coming to the US?
Sven: I wouldn't give up hope, but it's far from a done deal.
