Hurricane Polymar: Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Strategy Guide and Moves
Last updated on May 19, 2009
Symbol Meter
Hurricane Polymar has a Symbol Meter which resides just above his Hyper meter. It can have up to 3 'Marks' in it, and these are required to do Cancel some of his moves and perform his Level 3 Hyper.
Special Moves
A (2) next to an arrow means to hold the joystick in that direction for 2 seconds to 'charge' the move.
With moves that charge by holding back or down, you can use the diagonal positions to charge up as well. For example, if you're holding back, you can jump backwards or block low and still maintain your charge.

• Katana Kick (Tsunagiashi Katana Kyaku) •
Executing this attack will make Polymar step forward and kick his opponent about 4 times. You can also Cancel out of it at the cost of one of your Symbol Marks. You can Cancel this into another Katana Kick, Rekka Kicks or his Double Punch.
Holding the Attack button while doing this move will make Polymar go into his Hurricane Stance after wards.

• Double Punch (Hazaki Ura Kuzureken) • *Wall Bounce*
Polymar will punch his enemy twice and if it lands they'll fly back and bounce off the wall which can set up some juggling opportunities for you.

• Hurricane Stance (Arashi no Kamae) •
Polymar will enter a Stance where he can still be hit, but it gives you one Mark for his Symbol meter and it can be Canceled into a an attack by pressing the following buttons:
Light Attack: Is a Slide Kick which hits low but doesn't knock down. It can also be Canceled into his Katana Kick, Double Punch or Rekka Kicks but it will cost you 1 Symbol Mark to Cancel.
Medium Attack: Polymar performs a backfist which can also be Canceled into his into Katana Kick, Double Punch or Rekka Kicks but Canceling requires 1 Symbol Mark.
Hard Attack: Makes you move forward and attempt a throw, which is fast and has good range.
• Rekka Kicks (Handou Sandan Kyaku) •
It's best to think of this like Fei Long's Rekka Ken's from the Street Fighter 2 and 4 games. This is a triple hitting move, but each move requires its own input.
The first hit is done with a 'Shoryuken' motion plus an attack, which does a rising kick. The second hit which is executed by simply pressing an attack button, which does another rising kick that will miss if your opponent blocks the first move. And doing the quarter-circle back motion + an attack will make Polymar do a backflip.
This is mainly useful as a anti air or air combo move.
Hyper Moves
(360 motion, can also be done in the air)
• Hyper Spinning Polymar Driver (Level 1, Shinkuu Kate Koma) •
A very slow command grab, but you can use it in combos and it does a crapload of damage because it's not scaled based on your big your combo was.
This might be the best Hyper move in the game, because it's not blockable and if you do an air combo, you can finish it off with this. NASTY.
• Hyper Polymar Drill (Level 1, Tenshin Polymar Drill) •
This makes Polymar turn into a giant drill and travel back and forth across the screen, and he can even hit knocked down enemies with it. Another real good Hyper move for him. While it has a bit of start up time, it does a lot of damage — even if it's blocked — plus it beats out almost every move in the game.
You can be punished if this is blocked though. And yes, this move has a really weird way to execute it.

• Hyper Neck Breaker (Level 3, Hissatsu Gen'ei Hazaki Uraken) •
Requires 3 Symbol Marks to execute this. This is the most damaging Hyper move in the game. Polymar punches his opponent, kicks them a few times, stomps them into the ground and then breaks their neck, takes off about 60% of their life. Ouch.
Normal Moves
![]()
• Roll •
Polymar will roll behind his opponent at close range. VERY fast recovery time.
![]()
• Launcher •
This will launch your opponent up into the air.
Origins and Story
Hurricane Polymar, who's real name is Takeshi Yoroi, is a crime fighting superhero who wears a suit made of memory plastic that allows him to assume any shape.
Takeshi was just your average guy with a strong sense of justice, until he saved a professor from a bunch of bad guys. That professor introduced him to the substance called 'polymar' which was made into a suit and enables him to change shape, increases his strength, speed, stamina and gives him other super powers.
The Tatsunoko anime series is also called 'Hurricane Polymar', and it's known for some rather bad and off the wall humor, along with being fairly violent.

Not too bad of a character, except that he is slow and his inputs are very advanced, not to mention whiffing the Ultra after painstakingly collecting symbols is frustrating.

There are a few things I'd like to correct in this guide:
- After doing the Hurricane Stance and following it into a light or medium attack and then into another special does NOT cost a Symbol Mark. The only actions that cost Symbol Marks are the Hyper Neck Breaker and cancelling katana kick into any other special.
- Very minor thing, but still relevant, to do a 360, you don't even need to do 7 of directions, you only need six. That means doing a half circle plus one more input. You can go from a hcf into up-forward and it'll count as a 360, which makes the Hyper Spinning Polimar driver even easier to pull off!
