Polimar: Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Moves, Combos, Strategy Guide
Last updated on Dec. 13, 2009
Symbol Meter
Hurricane Polimar has a Symbol Meter which resides just above his Hyper meter. It can have up to 3 'Marks' in it, and these are required to do Cancel some of his moves and perform his Level 3 Hyper.
Special Moves
A (2) next to an arrow means to hold the joystick in that direction for 2 seconds to 'charge' the move.
With moves that charge by holding back or down, you can use the diagonal positions to charge up as well. For example, if you're holding back, you can jump backwards or block low and still maintain your charge.

• Katana Kick (Tsunagiashi Katana Kyaku) •
Executing this attack will make Polimar step forward and kick his opponent about 4 times. You can also Cancel out of it at the cost of one of your Symbol Marks. You can Cancel this into another Katana Kick, Rekka Kicks or his Double Punch.
Holding the Attack button while doing this move will make Polimar go into his Hurricane Stance after wards.
![]()
• Double Punch (Hazaki Ura Kuzureken) • *Wall Bounce*
Polimar will punch his enemy twice and if it lands they'll fly back and bounce off the wall which can set up some juggling opportunities for you.

• Hurricane Stance (Arashi no Kamae) •
Polimar will enter a Stance where he can still be hit, but it gives you one Mark for his Symbol meter and it can be Canceled into a an attack by pressing the following buttons:
Light Attack: Is a Slide Kick which hits low but doesn't knock down. It can also be Canceled into his Katana Kick, Double Punch or Rekka Kicks.
Medium Attack: Polimar performs a backfist which can also be Canceled into his into Katana Kick, Double Punch or Rekka Kicks but Canceling requires 1 Symbol Mark.
Hard Attack: Makes you move forward and attempt a throw, which is fast and has good range.
• Rekka Kicks (Handou Sandan Kyaku) •
It's best to think of this like Fei Long's Rekka Ken's from the Street Fighter 2 and 4 games. This is a triple hitting move, but each move requires its own input.
The first hit is done with a 'Shoryuken' motion plus an attack, which does a rising kick. The second hit which is executed by simply pressing an attack button, which does another rising kick that will miss if your opponent blocks the first move. And doing the quarter-circle back motion + an attack will make Polimar do a backflip.
This is mainly useful as a anti air or air combo move.
Hyper Moves
(360 motion, can also be done in the air)
• Hyper Spinning Polimar Driver (Level 1, Shinkuu Kate Koma) •
A very slow command grab, but you can use it in combos and it does a crapload of damage because it's not scaled based on your big your combo was.
This might be the best Hyper move in the game, because it's not blockable and if you do an air combo, you can finish it off with this. NASTY.
• Hyper Polimar Drill (Level 1, Tenshin Polimar Drill) •
This makes Polimar turn into a giant drill and travel back and forth across the screen, and he can even hit knocked down enemies with it. Another real good Hyper move for him. While it has a bit of start up time, it does a lot of damage — even if it's blocked — plus it beats out almost every move in the game.
You can be punished if this is blocked though. And yes, this move has a really weird way to execute it.

• Hyper Neck Breaker (Level 3, Hissatsu Gen'ei Hazaki Uraken) •
Requires 3 Symbol Marks to execute this. This is the most damaging Hyper move in the game. Polimar punches his opponent, kicks them a few times, stomps them into the ground and then breaks their neck, takes off about 60% of their life. Ouch.
Normal Moves
![]()
• Roll •
Polimar will roll behind his opponent at close range. VERY fast recovery time.
![]()
• Launcher •
This will launch your opponent up into the air.
Assists
| Partner Assist | Variable Counter | Variable Combination |
| Katana Kick | Down-Toward + Hard Attack (Launcher) | Hyper Polymar Drill |
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Storyline
A heroic crime fighter with a strong sense of justice, Polimar is a master of the invincible Hurricane-style martial art, which is known for its magical movements.
He also wears the Polimar Suit, a special high-tech crime-fighting suit made of shape-shifting memory plastic. The real man hidden under the suit is Takeshi Yoroi, a private detective’s assistant, whose undercover identity is that of a hapless loser.
Character origin
Hurricane Polimar, who's real name is Takeshi Yoroi, is a crime fighting superhero who wears a suit made of memory plastic that allows him to assume any shape.
Takeshi was just your average guy with a strong sense of justice, until he saved a professor from a bunch of bad guys. That professor introduced him to the substance called 'polymar' which was made into a suit and enables him to change shape, increases his strength, speed, stamina and gives him other super powers.
The Tatsunoko anime series is also called 'Hurricane Polimar', and it's known for some rather bad and off the wall humor, along with being fairly violent.

Not too bad of a character, except that he is slow and his inputs are very advanced, not to mention whiffing the Ultra after painstakingly collecting symbols is frustrating.

Great guide, thanks alot! My only words about this are that Hurricane doesn't break their neck...he kind of grinds his feet into their chest.

Uh, for his hyper, in the text it says its a 360 motion, but in the arrows, it only shows a 180. Which is correct?

@Corybell
A 360 motion in this game really on requires you hit 6 different directions as opposed to all 8. The movement shown there is actually bigger than a 180 because the last directional input is up+forward.

Whats the tier listing on this guys? I've been playing him, and he has great mix-up, easy combos, and does heavy damage.
He is predictable though.

Polimar's actually mid tier, along with Roll.

Hes predictable due to the fact that hes a fully close-up fighter but that can be fixed with the right partner. I'm currently using Polimar/Ippatsuman and they seem to work fine together, and Polimar is not mid tier hes probably above average because he has everything except a projectile to cover his range. Great mix-up, great assist, heavy damage capability through his combos, and believe me if he gets in one combo say goodbye to half of your life or even more if you add baroque combos to it.

I don't get the Polymar drill hyper...what does it mean? How is it imputed?
Posted by Spawn on February 3, 2010 at 6:52 p.m. #11
@ penguin
You basically press the light and medium button twice together and then the medium and hard button together once and it should work. You have to do this very quickly. Yes it has the most awkward input in the whole game lol compared to all the other moves.

I'm currently maining Polimar.
Subbing either VJ or Ken, haven't decided.
Frank and Volnutt mix great with this guy, though, IMO.

The freakin' Drill just won't happen to me. I keep putting the input the site and the game tells me but it just won't happen. D;

Polimar needs a 'Polidoken' or a projectile, but otherwise, he rapes beyond the definition of rape. The reset into his Single-Vacuum spin is ridiculous once you know how to do it every time. And it's not a 360, it's like a 270 or something.

Man, Bruce Lee would be proud of Hurricane Polymar.

Handsdown, my favorite character. This guy is has ridiculous ways to combo into his grab super. I love him.
Shame no one uses him online. I main him, Volnutt, Roll, and Batsu. While all I play online are Blades, Ryus, Soki, Batsu, Zero, and the occasional Viewtiful Joe.
