Cyclops moves and strategies: Marvel vs. Capcom 2

Special Moves

A (2) next to an arrow means to hold the joystick in that direction for 2 seconds to 'charge' the move.

With moves that charge by holding back or down, you can use the diagonal positions to charge up as well. For example, if you're holding back, you can jump backwards or block low and still maintain your charge.

Joystick
Optic Shot
Cyclops fires a slower moving beam out of his eyes. You can also do this while crouching.

Joystick Joystick Joystick Joystick Joystick (Can also be done in the air)
Optic Blast
Shoots out a VERY fast beam from Cyclops' eyes. The Hard Punch version angles upwards to catch characters who jump in, while Light Punch is done from a crouching position.

When done in the air, the Optic Blast shoots straight across the screen regardless of the button you use.

Optic Throw
Grabs your enemy and shoots them into the air propelled by a beam from Cyclops' eyes. As they're coming down you can jump up to Air Combo your opponent.

Joystick Joystick Joystick Joystick Joystick
Optic Sweep
Cyclops shoots out a beam aimed at the ground, but this can be blocked either high or low.

Joystick Joystick Joystick Joystick Joystick       Joystick (Mash Punches)
Gene Splice Uppercut
Essentially a Dragon Punch, but mashing the punch buttons will juggle the other fighter for more hits and damage.

Joystick Joystick Joystick Joystick Joystick
Cyclone Kick
A Hurricane Kick-like move. It makes you do a quick hop kick and then spin around for a sweep attack, but both hits can still be blocked high.

Joystick Joystick Joystick Joystick      Joystick or Joystick (Mash Punches or Kicks)
Rapid Punch
Executing this makes you lunge forward and attack your enemy with a couple of punches. You need to mash on the Punch or Kick buttons to get additional hits. This won't connect from a full-screen's distance, but if you take a couple of steps closer it should connect.

Joystick Joystick Joystick Joystick
Neck Breaker Grab
This is a command grab that's unblockable. Cyclops winds up and then starts running at the other player — if he's hit at any point during this time the move will not come out. If he connects though he'll tackle his enemy and slam them into the ground.

There's a decided delay when Cyclops is doing his wind up, so you really have to catch your opponent off guard to hit with this, so you won't be able to use it all of the time, but it's still handy against someone who's being overly defensive.

The range on this is roughly the same as the Rapid Punch, you need to be a couple steps in from full-screen's distance.

Joystick (In the air)
Double Jump
You can also use the diagonally-up positions to Double Jump in those directions as well.

Hyper (Super) Moves

Joystick Joystick Joystick Joystick Joystick        Joystick or Joystick (Mash Punches or Kicks) (Can also be done in the air)
Hyper Optic Blast
Blasts a freaking huge beam at your opponent, which can also be done in the air. Mashing the Punch and Kick buttons will generate more hits and damage.

Joystick Joystick Joystick Joystick Joystick        Joystick or Joystick (Mash Punches or Kicks) (Can also be done in the air)
Controllable Super Optic Blast
Similar to his Hyper Optic Blast, except the beam is much narrower, but you can control it by moving the joystick around. This beam can be bounced off of the floor.

Again, mashing the Punch and Kick buttons will generate more hits and damage.

Leg Flip Throw

Assists

Cyclops' Gene Splice Uppercut assist (B Type) is excellent because it has a huge invincibility window, which enables you to get rushdown characters off of you.

Type Partner Assist Variable Counter Variable Combination
A Projectile Type (L) Optic Blast (L) Optic Blast Hyper Optic Blast
B Anti-air Type (H) Gene Splice Uppercut (H) Gene Splice Uppercut Hyper Optic Blast
Y Expansion Type (H) Cyclone Kick (H) Cyclone Kick Hyper Optic Blast
Move strengths for assists:
• (L) next to the move stands for Light.
• (H) next to the move stands for Hard.
