Keep in mind that tier listings have been and always will be subjective. They never tell the whole story, but they do help tell a part of it.
As such, it's best off to play the characters that you like, people who match your own personal style, instead of playing characters, "just because they're high tier."

The different combinations in this game are what make it great, it's such a shame that most people can be shut down with Magneto, Storm and Sentinel so easily.

A lot of the more well loved characters are ranked low and few Capcom characters are ranked high at all. It's depressing.

I love this game, but unfortunately it really is horribly balanced. Capcom should really think about an optional "rebalanced" version that make more teams viable.

I believe Sirlin orthe people at Capcom said that it would be almost impossible to accomplish.
While the game does take some skill to pull off those off-the-wall combos, this game was mainly for hype and flashy excitement.

LOL It turns out that my favorite 5 characters from this game (Wolverine Adamantium, Psylocke, Jill, Hayato and Ryu) are all medium-low tier.
Well, I think in this kind of game the player's skills has a lot to do with the combat, but even I recognize that a Magneto-Storm-Sentinel team in a decent player's hand can be the worst nightmare ever!

it has always bother me how low Shuma Gorath and Thanos are. theyre damn near gods in the marvel universe, especially Gorath. funny how they're no good. Gorath is fun to play though.

personally i use Ether:
Cable,Sentinel and Captain Commando
or
Cable,Juggernaut and Captain Commando
i much prefer to use Juggernaut over Sentinel i just don't think Juggernaut should be that low on the tier list
but it could be worse at least he's not a street fighter character.

quick question. why is everyone so quick to make sure they mention strider is only top tier when coupled with doom, but people just put cable on there by himself when half the game eats him alive when he doesnt have a good AAA?

theres no way Magnus should be number 1. That spot is pretty much on permanent reserve for storm. No one can play keep away, or has as much rush down, excellent supers or works as well on ANY team as her. I would switch storm and sentinel, but the list seems pretty 'spot on' as far as I know the game. (been playing for about 10 years which is borderline sad) I am suprised though that Psylocke is as low as she is, but compared to those above her I guess... She can be pretty deadly in the right hands, she's so fast and she can practically trap with her standing fierce and psyblast fireballs when she has you in the corner.
Magnus just dies to quick, Im almost suprised he made it to third and MSP is one of my favorite teams to play. This doesn't really matter though because what does is the strength and combination of the team you're playing.
This game is soooo much fun!

Rogue is low tier. I remember watching vids of some guy on iplaywinner that pays only low tier in MvC2.
Personally, I play with who I like, not really competitive enough to buy into the whole tier whoring thing. Right now I play mostly with Venom/Juggy/ with a semi random 3rd.

Regarding the earlier comments about the game supposedly being unbalanced, it's true that a lot of lower tier characters get the shaft and aren't very usable, but what these people don't seem to realize is that MvC2 offers quite a few viable characters and team combinations. 14 characters see regular tournament use, that's as many viable characters as the entire cast of Super Turbo (and it's not like characters like Cammy or T.Hawk see particularly frequent tournament play).

I think this tier list is pretty accurate. Of course it does change from person to person. I would move alot of characters around. And most shoulp keep note that this is a tier list based on individual skill, Not as a team. So that Strider Doom team does not mean Strider should move up. WHich is why Strider is so high on this list actually. How many times have you seen Strider without Blackheart, Doom, or T Bonne? Strider is 10 times stronger with an assist that can keep opponents at bay. PS. I hate Sentinal Users. Y do you people Pick God teams when your playing in a damn player match and you saw me pick a low tier team? Get some variety. Then they get pissed cause the next time we play i pick Mag Sent Storm and murder them cause my roms and infinites are better.

My characters in order and what match ups I usually use them in are
Jin(against Captain Commando/Strider/Hayato, Cyclone!)
Gambit(Cable/Cyclops, too easy to jump over there attacks and just spam kentic card since they just want to spam the same two attacks)
Hulk(Black Heart/Juggernaut/Dr Doom/Sentinel, Gamma Rock!)
Venom(Storm/MagF***INGneto, their not special attacks are easily jumped over by a Venom Fang)
Spiderman(Sentinel, jumping spider swing spam)
Sliver Samurai(Storm, Can counter her lighting special with this)
Thanos(Dr.Doom, His DP foward special is awesome if you have a hovering Doom since you can guide it up)
A few others I have that are interchangeable
Rogue=Morigan(There main specials, Rogues DP foward and Morrigan DK back are pretty much the same thing with different results)
Sakura Dash= T Boone dash
Ruby=Jill
Wolverine Bone=Sabertooth
It's fun to smash on "God Teams" with Jin Gambit and Hulk especially if I can get that gamma rock off on Sentinel just as you go in for the rocket punch

my best team is blackheart captain commando...third charcater is not needed only for back up if blackheart get defeated quickly which then would be magneto,ironman,doom, basically anybody who can fly or stay airborne longer then normal character...any body with the ps3 version can hit me up online mr99centMcFury

You guys have your view on the tier list all wrong. The main mvc2 tier list shown here is based on overall value to team, not solely on individual strength. It's a mashup of individual strength, assist value, and battery power. Each of these actually have their own tier lists, but they're hard to find. SRK doesn't list them.

I think Blackheart is ranked 11 because they factored in cheapness of the characters as well as there assist spaming abilities and damage, however I puzzled as to why Sakura ranks lower than Ryu, Akuma, and even Ken she is better than all three if you ask me her Shoryken is damaging and u can connect just about all supers with that, plus assisted correctly Sakura run through beams, such as Iron Mans and Cyclops sadly not cables but she can run through his bullets lol

The tier is just fine except that sentinel is high than magneto, i also think its stupid that iron man is above war machine because war machine has to hyper moves and iron man only has one.

LOL at people compiling about tiers in MVC2. Listen, if you want to stay competitive at MVC2 you HAVE to pick Sentinel, Storm, Magneto, and Cable. If you don't pick those four and those four ONLY, you won't last 5 seconds at EVO. Just one of the many reasons why I don't like this game and never will.
