Ryu's Street Fighter IV storyline

Ryu is the definition of the lone wolf street fighter.

His stern determination to become a master of his fighting style has inspired many fellow martial artists. His training is his life and he will do whatever it takes to perfect his technique.

When Ryu was a boy, a master martial artist named Gouken adopted him. The young boy grew under Gouken's care, learning this unnamed fighting techniques with his best friend and fellow student, Ken Masters.

Once Ryu turned 23, Gouken deemed him ready to leave the dojo and test his skills against the best fighters in the world at the the first World Warrior Tournament.

Ryu won the contest, but the championship fight with Sagat, the Emperor of Muay Thai, was brutal and released his dark power called the Satsui no Hadou from inside the warrior (Ryu).

Though he came out victorious, Ryu was still troubled by the experience and became unsure about his own powers.

It is only after the comforting words of his best friend (Ken) that Ryu began to understand that there is still much he has to learn about himself and his fighting style.

The Satsui no Hadou, or Surge of Murderous Intent, is similar to M. Bison's Psycho Power and Ryu strives to avoid using it at all costs in order to keep true to his sensei's peaceful teachings.

But there are those who wish to use Ryu and harness the power of the Satsui no Hadou for themselves, including the CEO of S.I.N. And head of the new tournament, Seth.

no one with muscles like that could weight in at only 150. He would have to be closer to 220-260

I don't think game designers ever have a grasp of body mass indexes. They're prone to place someone like Ryu at 150 lbs./69 inches when that looks inaccurate as hell. That's probably the weight of a vegetarian emo dude with the arms of an 3-year atrophy patient, but not an accomplishment with nuclear arms. Yeah, Ryu should at least be around 180-200 lbs.

Dammit, I meant "accomplished martial artist."

it's possible to have muscle without having weight to it, Bruce Lee ("Li Shao Loong"), was 5' 7.5", 135 lbs right before his death, yet he had definition so I can see how it's possible to only have 15 more pounds on you and be that big.

lol im 5'2 and am a little chubby and weight 170 how is it that he was 150

Posted by J on October 16, 2009 at 9:58 p.m. #9

Bruce Lee was reportedly down to 120 shortly before he died, but there was clearly something wrong with him by that point.

To cuttyb87: it hasn't been announced which character is the canonical winner of the SF2 tournament, but some people think it is Chun Li based on a line in Street Fighter III about how she "destroyed that organization."

@ J okay remembered third strike . Due to the storyline and character involvement I think Alex won cuz he was the main charcter and in four their was a Seth that everyone Beat so maybe they are all winners lol

but in two Akuma killed Bison and fought whoever and if Chun-li won 4 happened before 3 so she still is searching for ansewers about Shadoloo so IDK I always thought 2 had no winner and Akuma messed it up

and in Alpha they fought to kill Bison and I think Rose succeeded lol

Ryu's last name is "Washington". And if you guys didnt know, Akuma's last name is "Jackson". Then you have Maurice Bison, Sagat Brown, Cheryl Viper, Kenneth Bernard Masters, Balrog Jones III, etc...

Can't they just use Lyoto Machida's specs? I mean, they both have the same build and they practically look alike.

Posted by Shambala on October 19, 2009 at 6:21 p.m. #22

Based on artwork and in-game appearances, Ryu would have to be somewhere between 215-230 pounds, with around 6% body fat. And Bruce Lee really didn't have muscle so much as an incredibly low body fat (though he did have strangely large lats). Assuming Ryu did weigh 150lbs, he'd look a bit smaller than Frank Yang.

RYU dislikes spiders, he does not fear them. Ryu fears nothing, not even chuck norris.
