(Mash Punch buttons) (Can also be done in the air)
• Staff Strikes (Fuusetsu Zan) •
This is very similar to E. Honda's Hundred Hand Slap from the Street Fighter games. You can do one of Sonson's regular moves and Cancel right into her Staff Strikes, which is handy.
Easy to combo with and difficult to counter when you're up close, great move, except your fingers will get tired from mashing the buttons all day.
(Can also be done in the air)
• Monkey Fireball (Shienbu) •
Shoots out three monkeys which travel along pretty slowly, for a projectile. Strength of button pressed controls the speed of your Monkey Fireball, with Hard Punch being faster.
(Can also be done in the air)
• Spinning Staff Uppercut (Seiten Rengeki) •
Essentially a Dragon Punch move for Sonson.
(When close)
• Kingin no Hisago (Command Grab) •
Sucks your enemy into a bottle, cooks them and shoots them out (this move takes awhile before it completes). While this is a command grab, it's blockable.
This has a good bit more range than your regular throw though and it does more damage.
• Ground Crawl •
Makes you crawl along the ground and your hitbox becomes very tiny. Pressing an attack button or executing a Special/Hyper move will stop your crawl and immediately make you do the resulting attack.
or
• Wall Climb •
Sonson runs around the edges of the screen, if you press a Punch button she'll drop from whatever position she's at. Pressing Kick makes her do a Dive Kick attack.
or ![]()
or
• Air Dash •
Dash forwards or backwards in the air by using the commands listed above.
(Can also be done in the air)
• Giant Staff Smash (Tenchi Tsuukan) •
Sonson throws her staff into the air, and a giant end of it comes down to smash the other player. If you want to combo, you need to connect with Sonson's initial staff throw — which doesn't have much range.
• POW •
Makes the word Pow appear and travel across the screen. If it hits, your opponent turns into fruit which Sonson promptly eats and then spits out a seed... yeah, it's weird.
Big time start up on this move, making it all but impossible to combo with, but the hit box is pretty big.
• Monkey Form (En'ou) •
Turns you into a really big monkey which you can control with the joystick and buttons. This lasts for 4 seconds.
Pressing Kick makes you breathe fire and while you're doing so you can aim it up or down with the joystick. Punch buttons do various punch attacks.
• Gansai Hekiretsu •
| Type | Partner Assist | Variable Counter | Variable Combination | |
| A | Heal Type | Life-Up Peach | (L) Staff Strikes | Hyper Monkey |
| B | Projectile Type | (H) Monkey Fireball | (L) Monkey Fireball | Hyper Monkey |
| Y | Anti air Type | (H) Spinning Staff Uppercut | (L) Spinning Staff Uppercut | Giant Staff Smash |

I have Sonson on my team because she has the best assist when I play with her. I use her Anti-air assist and people just don't know how to deal with it because it's quick and I can combo into it.

She's cute and annoying. And yeah, Seiten Rengeki definitely puts the pressure to the other team when used properly. I would know cuz I was the poor sapling who had to deal with that.

Actually The POW super can be combo'd into. But you must use an assist to combo the POW. A handful of assists can be used but not much. Luckily it's characters I use that are able to be combo'd for this Super to work. I love SonSon and When i combo the POW its cool and people are always surprised cause they rarely fight SOnSOn and never see the POW in action.

Also want to note that SonSons wall climb is awesome for crossups and is very dangerous. She is definitely a higher tier than noted. But because she is a totally different style of play no one uses her and no one really knows her capabilities. Shes more than just an assist character. I always start off with her. Thats all. :)

Sonson is fantastic. I love Journey to the West. I know she isn't actually Sun Wukong, she's like his daughter or whatever but still. It would be really cool to see other characters from it done in a Capcom style, especially Sandy and Pigsy (or at least their kids).

Damn, its funny because I really like this character. I can't believe little goku was inspired my favourite fighter. That's what's up.. Still trying to perfect that move where she spins her staff. It's positioned like she is pointing it at you and she spins it. I gotta do that.
