When Super Street Fighter 4 comes out, will eventhubs update the SF4 guide so that it has strategies for both games, or well there be a separate guide for Super?

Posted by Answer maybe on January 25, 2010 at 8:28 p.m. #2

Event Hubs is using the most current version of sf2 and sf3 if they follow thier current pattern super will override the current information.

Hi everyone!

I have a big question (at least for me^^):

Is the JAP/US version of the game faster than the Euro version?Cause when i see guys playing of when i play online i really have the feeling that there game is faster than my,not only for the ones who beat me^^

Thanks.

Quick question. Does anyone know if Ibuki can wall jump?

@ blue she cant wall jump

makoto looks like she can follow up after her ultra http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JO0hs6...

Posted by Studley Dudley on March 2, 2010 at 10:01 a.m. #7

Dudley is Very interesting and so far my only problem is his voice...It should be a little deeper, but i'm fine with it unless they decide to make it more funny.

Posted by Q on March 2, 2010 at 10:26 a.m. #8

Why couldn't they bring Q back in some kind of downloadable content cause he would be an interesting addition to the game. At this point they are trying to bring characters in that would fit in the time period, but the could have Q just not have a story and just be playable...

Whats the betting capcom decide to make a third incarnation of street fighter 4?

Posted by SSF4HYPERTURBO on March 7, 2010 at 3:01 a.m. #10

@669
I don't think there would(atleast not in a years time) but considering all the titles of SFII who knows. They just might. If they did they better be adding a crap load more stuff. Even More then just what SSFIV is gonna be.

Posted by ExclusiveOrGate on March 16, 2010 at 10:05 p.m. #11

If Capcom really loves us they will implement an option to turn off the announcers voice only, and keep all the other voices on. amirite?

wats the secret extra content if you own both games? ans are all the coustumes included in the new disk?

I wish Hugo from third strike could be in this game.

hi... am new in this forum so..i have a problem...i cant win the storied reputation achivemente. I've played in normal mode in 1 or 3 rounds with 60 secs, i heard i must win until agains seth..so i must lose with seth and the last fighter get win to him? sorry if is a confusion..thx a lot

Posted by MB56 on March 31, 2010 at 1:59 a.m. #15

@ Maxiwar

hmm, i think to get storied reputation, you have to beat arcade mode on medium(or higher difficulty) with every single character. I dunno what u mean with seth, but you have to beat him with everyone.

I think SF4 is a game where you have to dedicate yourself to to get good. I let my friend borrow my copy and 3 weeks later when i played it again i lost my timing for all of combos with abel. You don't need over complicated motions or fancy air combos, you need timing. Simple, yet hard. I think thats why im a fan ;P

Posted by DarkBurialX on April 8, 2010 at 11:53 p.m. #18

I have many problems playing with C.Viper because I struggle with doing her combos and timing her combos.

Posted by frankie3nig on April 13, 2010 at 7:30 a.m. #19

@ DarkBurialX

you gon need to practice your dam ass off but once u understand the timing on moves and combos you should be good but if you dont practice with her then you are screwed

Hey guys. Some of you know this but, DarksydePhil, a pro SF player, had a Youtube channel filled with a ton of game relayed stuff (playthroughs, SF online matches, etc.) and he's really funny. Unfortunately, it was just taken down because of "BS" copy right claims, and I'm upset because I'm a big fan of his. So now he's going to be opening up two new channels, one for game playthroughs and another for Street Fighter relayed stuff. He wants the word spread out, and seeing has this is a SF related site, I want to let you guys know about his new channel, DSPStreetFighter. It'll have a bunch of Super SF4 game footage when it comes out and other Street Fighter related stuff, so if you've never heard of him and/or want to check out good SF gameplay, look him up. Peace.

You beat me to it #20. While you're at it, spam Ubisoft and don't purchase their products. They probably did it just because Capcom makes better games.

DarkBurial I agree, Hugo would have been AWESOME. Studley Dudley, I agree, Dudley's voice lacks testosterone. But there will always be characters we wish we had, or minor tweaks here and there. Other than that though, I CANT WAIT to get this tomorrow. I'm really exited about it!

Posted by InfernoDivider on April 27, 2010 at 4:51 a.m. #32

Goin to get it today!! Even if this game was a full price game I still would buy it hands down.

So I've been playing SFIV since launch, dabbled in 3rd strike a bit as well, but definitely no pro... and I just found out about OPTION SELECTS as playing strategies... how the hell did I miss this?!! Anyway, not sure if this is the place to post suggestions but please add an area for this strategy, which apparently all the pros know about... please think about the noobs.

Posted by Patrick on April 27, 2010 at 9:16 a.m. #34

The 3 characters I would have loved to see Dudley, Hugo, and Haggar. One out of three aint bad. Plus Hakan seems like a really cool alternative to Haggar anyway. Can't wait to pick this up. I agree w' 32, it would have been worth full price! Prepare to run into me on ps3 with a pretty decent Dudley!

Put in a couple hours on SSF4 yesterday. GREAT GAME. Definately would have been worth 60 bucks but thanks Capcom for the low price! I like just about every tweak they made to this new version! They even took out things that were annoying/unnecessary like the pop song at the beginning, time attack and survival challenges (which i never cared about), but kept and enhanced the trial challange (the only one I thought was worth playing anyway) so it's got cool techno music during the trials and aslo a better menu display. Everything down to the title menu's and character select screens look way cooler, loading times (on ps3...with game installed) are ridiculously fast compared to 4's. As is the online play. It all runs much smoother. Haven't had a single game where the connection wasn't good so far. Not a hint of slowdown or connection breaks. This title has my vote for game of the year 2010.

SSFIV Rules! Karin Should Have Been In It Though :(

Posted by JohnJohnson on May 1, 2010 at 8:24 p.m. #41

Ok, here's what I think about the new guys. So far, I'm liking them, no one seems overpowered, nor do I think any of them are terrible. However, I do have some issues with them. Don't get me wrong, Guy and Juri are really good I think. Guy I think is the best out of them all, he's fast and a really good mix up game, and Juri is really balance (she can be played offensively and defensively). But the other 8 have issues;

Cody has a good offensive game, but doesn't have a good reversal.
Adon barely has any good combos.
Hakan is only good when he's oiled up.
Dee Jay has good combos, but can barely combo into his ultras.
T.Hawk looks like he'll have really bad match ups.
Ibuki has a high learning curve.
Makoto plays like Allen Iverson.
And Dudley needs to be in-your-face to any real damage.

Any other thoughts anyone?

Posted by Existent on May 2, 2010 at 4:57 p.m. #42

@ 41 Where to start...I don't have extensive experience with any newcomer other than Guy but what I've seen suggests that T.Hawk, Cody, and Dudley will be formidable. Guy and Ibuki have potential but come with high learning curves. I have no idea what your Makoto/Iverson analogy is referring to and I'm from the Philadelphia area.
(All or nothing?)

Anyone else HATE Juri? Her attacks are so high priority, quick, and damaging. Juri is the New Sagat, but faster and more annoying...oh, and uglier too.

Posted by Ssaico on May 4, 2010 at 12:10 p.m. #46

@Patrick, high priority? you can grab her out of her pin wheel and ex pinwheel. and her dive kick move is extremely punishable. she is no where near to the next sagat. i main ibuki now, and i think dee jay is becoming a pain in the ass to me.

Posted by Danielq94 on May 5, 2010 at 12:11 p.m. #47

Juri's good but she's no sagat

- her defense is lower
- her fireball is crapper
- Pinwheel is ultra punishable
- feng shui engine is only good if u know what youre doing with it
- Oh and i hate her voice

Posted by Patrick on May 6, 2010 at 11:06 a.m. #48

Yeah, I've given it some practice and I agree with you guys. It just took me a while to realize that I need to block/punish her moves and now she's not nearly as frustrating to play against. On another note...do any of you miss having the option to fight unranked matches online? I do, It's nice sometimes to practice some of the fun characters without having to take a loss when you lose. Having it all ranked keeps me from doing that. I always just play as my main so I can have a fighting chance everytime. I wish they would bring back that option in a patch.

Posted by Danielq94 on May 6, 2010 at 11:11 a.m. #49

I Miss championship mode :(

Posted by Deeweromekoms on May 7, 2010 at 5:05 a.m. #50

@Patrick - I think you answered your own question. You shouldn't be allowed to raise your rank pounding on noobs, it defeats the purpose. Practice with other characters in endless mode, that's what it's there for.

Posted by Patrick on May 7, 2010 at 6:24 a.m. #51

So endless mode doesn't effect player points? I haven't tried it yet. It that's the case than great!

Posted by Patrick on May 7, 2010 at 8:57 a.m. #52

i bet it still count on your win/loss records on player data though... does anyone know?

Posted by Existent on May 7, 2010 at 1:17 p.m. #53

@52 All wins and losses are counted as player data however there is a separate log for ranked match records.

Posted by Patrick on May 7, 2010 at 6:16 p.m. #54

Thanks Existent. That's kind of what I figured. Oh well. Its not a big deal. I've actually been playing around with a few other characters other than my main today and doing pretty well online.

Posted by BK on May 12, 2010 at 2:42 p.m. #57

im a little upset with this game. cant watch the story unless your doin the story mode, theres no survival or time mode (which helped me stay playin the game) but they kept trial (which is lame), and the rival match had the same video which really killed it for me. o and one more thing. it sucks having easy access to unlock colors, especially when the colors to the old cast are the same. without online, this game gets old pretty quick. i really hope they put survival and time mode back in, change the rival videos, and let me work for different colors one the next one. dont forget about karin this time either.

Posted by xxjcblackheartxx on May 12, 2010 at 8:22 p.m. #58

i hate all shoto user's online i hope they all F$%^& die....it's so f%^&ing easy to use ryu ken ect ...i know because ken was my main for many years...i have been trying to master makoto for some time and i have lost so fu$%^ing much to these cheap SOB's everything is a combo with this characters ever wake up and dragon punch has frame advantage...i can't stand these characters.....this has led me to break my SSF4 disc and my 140 arcade sticks which now in reflection i regret doing.....
so either i have PTSD from my 3 tours to afghanstan or getting beaten by scrubs who use bullsh$#%^ zoning rushdowns is driving me insane

Posted by Oculus_Orbis on May 13, 2010 at 2:04 a.m. #59

@ xxjcblackheartxx
well...from the things you said, it does seems like you have some sort of psychological issue, which may make you a danger to yourself, or others. 3 tours to Afghanistan? I can't even begin to imagine what that's like. But regardless, I can only hope, that you seek help for your mental health issues.

However, you may also simply be a liar.
140 arcade sticks...
Impossible? no.
improbable? definitely.
Maybe the whole Afghanistan thing is true...
Then again, Maybe I'm Benjamin Franklin.
Or am I Ziggy Stardust?

Either way, I feel pity for you.

Posted by Patrick on May 13, 2010 at 7:18 a.m. #60

To Oculus_Orbus...He probably meant $140 arcade stick instead of what he actually typed. And ptsd is a very real thing, so if he has it, give the guy a break.

To xxjcblackheartxx: Sorry to hear that you broke your disc and controller(s). We've all had losing streaks and been angry at the game before, you aren't alone. Hang in there, and if you ever do get into SSF4 again, give Blanka a try. He's got a thousand and one way's to punish shotos. Sometimes just switching characters can get you out of the rut. Oh, Bison can give the shoto's hell too. Anyway, good luck.

Posted by Danielq94 on May 13, 2010 at 1:54 p.m. #61

@ xxcjcblackheartxx how can you get that angry at a fighting game? so u got beat a few times, was it worth trashing your disc and arcade stick, perhaps u should try get better with makoto, switch back to ken or try a new character and stop throwing tantrums just because u lost

Posted by JungleMan on May 13, 2010 at 2:44 p.m. #62

I wish you could start a game lobby that lets you restrict the use of certain characters. Could you imagine how fun this game would be on line if you didn't have to fight an endless stream of Ryu/ken/akumas? Imagine actually learning one of the other 32 characters. Go out on a limb (no pun intended) and learn Dhalsim. He's fun to use once in a while. you'll probably lose 15 matches in a row to ryu/ken/akuma, but at least you're playing a different character. It's worst for average players like me. Once you start getting really good, everyone's fun to use, and ryu/ken/akuma is just boring.

Posted by JungleMan on May 13, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. #63

what is a "cheap win" on the player data of SSFiv?

Posted by Patrick on May 13, 2010 at 6:46 p.m. #64

Jungle Man...I'm pretty sure a cheap win is when you score the final attack with chip damage. As in, the apponent is knocked down with almost an empty health bar and you toss a fireball their way as they're getting up.

Posted by xxjcblackheartxx on May 13, 2010 at 7:20 p.m. #65

Mad Catz tournment additional stick win i bought it was 139.99 at gamestop....
i have since brought a new game and stick much to mydismay.....maybe you could call it a tantrum but frustration levels also coupled with jack led to bad decsions....ptsd does f#$%king suck shooting people in teh face kinda sticks with you for a little while anyway i have given up on makoto and i am trying to make cody my main...which is going a little better than makoto also it would be nice to not fight 29 ryu's in a row....i mean i have pretty much mastered ken...i have been playing street figher since i was very young and even then shoto characters were so easy to master....not to say that all players who use them are bad or good player's daigo uses ryu....but to advance as a better player i figure i would try a harder character to master...i guess this is a true test to see how good you are at the game...ohh well...anyway sorry for the rant...anyone who plays cody wanna give me tips i play on PS3 name is my user name

Posted by Existent on May 13, 2010 at 9:44 p.m. #66

@65 If you want to consistently play skilled players it would be best to add a few as friends that don't mind playing 10 or more matches in a sitting with you.Find someone unequivocally better than you and play them until you're forced to become better.

Posted by Patrick on May 25, 2010 at 5:12 a.m. #72

DanielQ94, Personally I never pick girls in video games, so I don't like any girl characters other than maybe chun li since she's been around for so long, i can live with her. But to each his own. I know alot of players like the girls in fighting game. But i'm just throwing in my two cents bc you asked. But who I wuold like to see is Hugo, Birdie, and maybe another boxer (i know we already got 2 but we have 3 wrestlers, Oh, Haggar would be interesting. He could be Cody's new rival since cody used to date his daughter and now Cody's a bad guy.

Posted by ExclusiveOrGate on May 25, 2010 at 2:41 p.m. #73

@72 (Patrick)

Personally, I really wouldn't mind the girl characters if they didn't dress like they work at a brothel. Why can't they dress with some self respect? It actually really annoys me. Makoto is the only one that seems to have even a shred of decency.

Posted by Patrick on May 26, 2010 at 8:57 a.m. #74

exclusiveorGate, I agree 100 percent.

Posted by CONSTvariable23 on May 26, 2010 at 12:42 p.m. #75

Many of the male characters in this game have costumes blatantly designed more to show off their extremely (over)developed bodies than to be believable. You think karate gis are worn like that in real life? Is it common in the US Air Force to wear a vest with nothing under it? M. Bison's alt 1 just "coincidentally" got damaged in such a way that it exposes most of his chest, huh? Or what about Fei Long's booty shorts (which come in tighty whitey and pink variations, FYI)? And Abel's alt 1 is so incredibly exploitative that it literally left me speechless when I first saw it. Yet none of *them* lack self-respect, only a *woman* is a hooker when she dresses for sex appeal. Yeah, sure, that's not sexist at all.

Posted by ExclusiveOrGate on May 26, 2010 at 5:56 p.m. #76

@ CONSTvariable23

Good point, except for Abel. His alt costume is a wrestling singlet, I used to wrestle and that is exactly what I used to wear, just a different color. Cammytoe, on the other hand, has no excuse.

Posted by chirpie on May 27, 2010 at 7:59 a.m. #77

I'm surprised to hear the comments about the girls looking slutty. I thought SSF4 was actually fairly tame compared to other fighters out there. Makoto, Chun Li, Sakura, and Rose don't strike me as brothel girls at all.

Maybe I'm biased because I'm a Chunner, but this definitely is a far cry from Dead or Alive.

Posted by ExclusiveOrGate on May 27, 2010 at 8:38 a.m. #78

True, the other fighting games make ssf4 girls look like nuns.

Posted by ChiroMagi on May 27, 2010 at 4:02 p.m. #79

True and true, though I can't help but feel almost offended in a comical way. I main with Ryu, but mainly because I prefer balanced characters. I don't think it should be a crime to use shoto characters, but to hit a different side of the spectrum, I use Cammy quite often as well. I'm a BIG fan of her CQC Ultra, it is just a shame that it is practically impossible to hit the AI opponents with it because the moment I activate it, even if they are in mid-swing, they will stop and either projectile spam me or just throw me. Then there is Sagat... I like Sagat's reach. Not referring to projectiles, I mean his punches and kicks. It really pays off being like nine feet tall. :D

Posted by TragicHero on May 28, 2010 at 7:18 p.m. #80

I don't think Cammy looks slutty either. I mean just her ass is showing a little bit, but come on, that's pg-rated material. Girls on the beach show off a lot more than that.

Dhalsim player here and im SICK of fighting nothing but shoto characters online ... i can beat them more often than not but thats not the point. I have not seen a single Hakan, Gen or Makoto player online yet and its actualy quite upsetting. Its making me want to play as them just to let people know they exist .....

Posted by ExclusiveOrGate on June 4, 2010 at 10:42 a.m. #86

@ DuckWithAGun

If it makes you feel better, I play with Hakan and Gen.

When I play endless battle I try to avoid playing the same character twice in a row, so I rotate through everybody except for Ken and Ryu, I never play them lol. I do use Gouken on occasion though. Add me on PSN if you ever need more people to play with. Same ID as my eventhubs name.

If I feel like winning though I will play Blanka and/or El Fuerte, not that I will win, but at least I have a fighting chance with Blanka.

Hakan is, even said by the top players, bad. Really bad.
If you haven't seen the clip.
Makoto is way to technical and may (or is?) quite stale compared to the rest of the cast, at first glance.
And Gen being ridiculously complicated to play.
yeah yeah, "he's not that difficult", can already feel the hate from that line. But really, compared to the rest you have to agree?

Anyway, I'd like to see a decrease of Blanka roll wh**es, Dhalsim pokers and Juri players who thinks that her Dive Kick is a invincible "way to win" move...

I'm suprised by the giant lack of Sagat and Cody players.
Or did people stop play Sagat because he "isn't" god tier anymore? Pathetic? Little?
In my eyes Cody is a terrific character, popular by many for his attitude and is insanely easy to combo with, also having tons of varieties for them.

Me? I'm like ExclusiveOrGate, I play just about every character, except Ryu or Ken, especially Ryu.

I hate ryu personally i would like them to make just 1 sf game without him or ken. It must be so boring playing as ryu and playing against ryu or ken almost every match. I play nearly every character as well, i just think it's a waste of money to buy a game and just keep being ryu or ken all the time. Perhaps it's because their simple characters to play decently, oh well...

Posted by Hitstick on June 6, 2010 at 3:33 p.m. #89

Wow it doesn't matter which character is said to be good or not it is always up to the player how good or bad a character is.

And Ryu is the most played character out there...Ken has declined...I see more Blanka's and other characters then Ken online or in tournaments.

I have a cool story. One time I lost a ranked match (I know it's hard to believe) and it was being recorded. Immediately I thought "there goes my reputation, I'll never be respected again". Then I realized that nobody watches the recorded matches because you can't even select a specific character you want to watch, only a group of characters. True story, crazy!!!

@ 86

Hakan and Gen, eh? I'd happily play you some.

Random advice that there doesn't seem to be a more appropriate place for: if you haven't yet, especially if you have trouble doing bread and butter combos (but it can help anyone), do the combo trials. For every character, not just your mains or the ones you want the titles/icons for. You might think it's just a troublesome waste of time, but it really will make you a better player, and I'm not even talking about using the combos for real (although some of them are actually practical, or close enough to adapt). Just reaching that level of execution *once* improves your game, and can almost magically make you capable of things you weren't before. And don't be afraid to go to another character's trials if you get stuck, because skills you practice/learn in one set of trials can frequently be applied to other sets.

A word of warning though, while all of the trials are possible, there's no guarantee that you can do them the way the instructions say they should be done. Consult a guide if something seems impossible for reasons beyond just strict timing, it may require a more creative approach.

Posted by Drippy_Nozzle on June 8, 2010 at 12:52 a.m. #93

I totally agree with CONSTvariable23-
I have found just playing with all the characters has really helped my execution. I haven't done all the combo's (its around 88% at the moment, 15 fin.) but I keep going back through and finishing off where I was stuck before, and its great when you manage one you tried for ages.

And also @#90
If you do wanna look at specific replays there is a "New Replays" channel. I also shows you the grades of the characters involved and the view win/loss status is optional.

Is there any chance of SSF4 coming to PC once an arcade version is released?

Posted by Drippy_Nozzle on June 14, 2010 at 1:35 a.m. #98

Lol at #94;
All GOOD games are hard and require skill to play. I bet everyone else on this forum agrees with me.

#97;
Yer they probably will put it on PC, though I'm not sure. They are not a company to miss an oppertunity to make some more money. Super hyper elite street fighter turbo max platinum... Capcom we love you. Lol.

Posted by DeckedValley on June 14, 2010 at 9:08 a.m. #99

People seem to think juri players only spam dive kick and pinwheels, I find her stored fireballs much more useful, for keep-aways and combo. I only use dive kicks when I'm trying to get in on someone spamming fireballs and/or backing away, and I use EX pinwheels for wake-up.

Found a site with the character tiers for super.

Take it with a pinch of salt, but it might be helpful to some.

@MB56
Use Zangief and spam some normals and waste EX bars on EXBF combos.

u guys know how to get Ryu and ken's rival movie???i saw it on the trailer....but i couldn't see it on the game...

Posted by OdinReborn on June 26, 2010 at 10:01 p.m. #105

#104: All three kicks when it says "Now! Fight your rival!"

----

I main Sagat. I always have, I always will. I mained Sagat in Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition and up, in Capcom vs SNK, Capcom vs SNK 2, Street Fighter 4, and finally, Super Street Fighter 4. I actually posted my recent Super Street Fighter 4 record, but I know I'm just going to get the "lol u fought bad opponents" or "lol u suk cheater" or "lol wat?", etc, etc, etc, if I post my YouTube account.

That's not the point however.

The point being, is that I feel like telling all the Sagat players how to counter each and every character, as best as possible. Mind you, this stuff obviously isn't going to work 100% of the time since everyone has their own little niches and whatnot. But, I'll admit I'm a very good Sagat player (One that plays quite different), and I want to give other Sagat players some advice.

I'll cover all the characters, in alphebetical order:

ABEL:

1. Don't throw too many fireballs in this fight. Abel has ways to get around them, and both of his Ultras easily punish fireballs.

2. Punish all Hard Kick Wheel Kicks. They are punishable on block. Light Wheel Kicks however, are not punishable.

3. Common knowledge, but always grab him out of his Marseille Roll whenever possible.

4. Regular Tornado throw is hittable, but not throwable. EX Tornado throw is not hittable, but throwable.

5. You're going to have to put the pressure on Abel and keep him in check the entire round so he does not gain the momentum. Jump in with medium punch when at medium/close range, and Hard Kick when at long range. Abel has a tough time trying to use his anti-air throw against a Medium Punch jump in.

6. Abel is a "random" character. He mainly sets these up with a medium kick, then a dash forward. You're just going to have to guess whether he's going to Tornado Throw you, grab you, or poke you.

7. If Abel does his Ultra 2, and you're close with an EX bar, do NOT use EX Tiger Knee. Abel's hitbox is wonky versus EX Tiger Knee, and, if Abel holds position, your EX Tiger Knee will just sail over him (Does not put you on opposite side)

8. Again, general knowledge, but especially with Abel, make good use of your pokes.

--------------

ADON:

1. Punish all Jaguar Tooths, aside from EX, with Light High Tiger Shots. No matter which strength he does it, Light Punch will stuff it everytime.

2. Also in terms with dealing with Jaguar Tooths, don't bother trying to uppercut them in-case you guess wrong. The only one you should ALWAYS uppercut is his EX Jaguar Tooth, since it's the same everytime, and it's easily telegraphable. Use an EX Tiger Uppercut so you don't trade hits.

3. You can play keep-away with Adon for most of the match, but his Ultra 1 goes through projectiles.

4. Don't try to punish his Jaguar Kicks, they're safe on block versus Sagat.

5. Good Adons won't use Jaguar Tooth all that often versus Sagat. You can win trading hits.

Posted by OdinReborn on June 26, 2010 at 10:20 p.m. #106

It should also be noted that a LOT of this stuff can DEFINITELY be applied to other characters, based on similarities. I really should've renamed this "General things you can do versus these characters, also, Sagat."

AKUMA:

1. If Akuma tries to jump in at you near close range, then throws an Air Fireball, punish him with an uppercut. Taking the small damage the air fireball does is always worth the large amount of damage he'll take.

2. Punish Demon Flips with uppercuts when possible, if not:
-Block Punch and Kick Demon Flip, punish Neutral Demon Flip

3. Akuma can punish a jump in with his Ultra 1 (Catching you in the landing frames)

4. Wait Akuma out if you decide to play Fireball wars. He'll often try to do his 3-hit Fireball to counter your Tiger Shots. If you're close enough, you can punish him with a jump in Hard Kick/Medium punch, and follow up.

5. Don't get too Focus happy with Akuma, far standing roundhouse will stuff it.

---------------

BALROG (BOXER):

1. Use Tiger shots VERY sparingly in this fight. Balrog has PLENTY of ways to get past them.

2. A Level 1 Turn Punch is safe on block versus Sagat EXCEPT against Sagat's Light Super. You have a 1 frame window in which to counter him.

3. Balrog will constantly try to set up his combo into Headbutt Ultra 1, stay defensive. Balrog has a tough time cracking very defensive players.

4. Balrog will often try to EX Dash punch his way through fireballs if you get too liberal. Answer this with an EX Tiger Knee to always stuff it.

5. NEVER use your Angry Scar in this match. You need to save as much of your EX bars as possible.

-----------------

BLANKA:

1. Once again, be very liberal in your fireballs. Blanka can punish them easily.

2. Straight rolling ball crushes Focus Attacks, and EX Straight rolling ball blows through projectiles.

3. You can focus any other of his balls though.

4. If you have the EX Bar, don't be afraid to wake up EX Tiger Knee out if you see Blanka trying to dive hop you. At worst you'll trade hits.

5. Blanka's jumps are a lot more vertical, making countering with an uppercut difficult. Once again, you can benefit from this match by staying defensive. Don't let Blanka bait you into throwing tiger shots.

6. To block Blanka's Ultra 1, it's always Low, High, Low.

7. Do not try to jump in versus Blanka by jumping in with Medium Punch or Hard Kick, he'll often use his electric attack and stuff it.

-------------

CAMMY:

1. All Spiral Arrows are punishable on block UNLESS the very tip of the hit hits you.

2. Punish all Spin Knuckles with either a grab or an uppercut. Spin Knuckle goes through fireballs.

3. Cammy has a tough time getting in versus a good Keep-Away Sagat.

4. Bait Cammy's Ultra 1 by Focus attacking at medium range. As soon as the Ultra starts to come out, backdash. You'll take a measily one hit since you're considered in the air while in the middle of the backdash.

Posted by OdinReborn on June 26, 2010 at 10:38 p.m. #107

5. Cammy will try to get meter using long range instant air dive kicks. Keep the pressure on with high and lower tiger shots.

------------

CHUN-LI:

1. Chun-Li will try to get close whenever possible, play Keep-away.

2. Punish all jump ins with an Uppercut. Same goes if she tries an off-the-wall-jump.

3. Her flip kick can go over your Low Tiger Shots.

4. Her Ultra 1 goes through projectiles.

5. A well-placed Tiger Knee can stuff a lot of Chun-Li's arsenal.

6. Chun-Li's Ultra 2 is only useful as an end to a combo, keep playing fireball wars and Keep away if she has Ultra 2 selected.

-------------

CODY:

1. You will win the fireball war versus Cody, but his EX Stone Throw will beat out your regular Tiger Shots.

2. Unless done at long range, you can always punish his Light kick Ruffian move.

3. Almost inevitably, you'll be forced into close range.

---------------

C. VIPER:

1. Sagat has a tough time at long range versus C. Viper. This is one match where you do not want to throw tiger shots. You need to keep up the pressure.

2. Hard Thunder Knuckle will most likely at best trade hits with you when jumping in.

3. Sagat has a tough time in this match if he is not on the offensive.

4. You can Focus Absorb any of her Seismic Hammer, at best you'll bait her into Super Jumping, which will set up an uppercut. (So long as she also does not predict you doing so, and will cancel the jump with a Burning Kick)

------------

DAN:

...Really? Dan? You need tips versus DAN?

...Ok, one tip.

1. You will lose the more Dan taunts. Make sure he does not taunt, or your humiliation will cause you to forfeit the match in sheer, pants-wetting humiliation.

--------------

DEE JAY:

1. Pretty much treat this like a Guile fight, which will be explained in the Guile section.

2. You will beat him in a Fireball war.

3. Dee Jay likes to set up his Medium Kick, which knocks down.

-----------------

DHALSIM:

1. Oh. God. Dhalsim. As an avid Sagat player. Dhalsim gives me HELL.

2. Sagat is to Zangief as Dhalsim is to Sagat, basically.

3. The best advice I can really give is to not get too fireball happy. You can focus his limbs, and you NEED to put pressure more than ever.

4. Getting Dhalsim into the corner makes it hard for him to escape without SOME punishment.

5. Jumping in, no matter with Hard Kick or Medium punch, will almost always get stuffed by his standing back Hard Kick.

6. Instead of you playing keep away, Dhalsim will play Keep away from you.

7. I hope you die in a fire Dhalsim, which probably won't do much to you, seeing how, you know, you breathe fire and all.

Posted by OdinReborn on June 26, 2010 at 10:51 p.m. #108

DUDLEY:

1. Dudley's Duck move will go through projectiles.

2. You can still be quite liberal in your fireballs, as you can use them to bait Dudley.

3. You can answer a lot of Dudley's work with a well-placed Tiger Knee. Especially his Machinegun Blow.

--------------------

EL FUERTE:

1. Again, another "random" character. Once again, you're just going to have to guess.

2. Tiger Knee does a good job of stuffing his Habenaro Dash, so long as you catch him early.

3. When in doubt, if he gets close to you while doing a Habenaro Dash, TIGER UPPERCUT SOLVES ALL YO' PROBLEMS SON.

------------

E. HONDA:

1. Fireballs, fireballs, fireballs. Although Honda has a better time versus your Tiger shots as he did in vanilla Street Fighter 4, he still has a tough time.

2. I haven't really experimented, but you can counter his Sumo Slams (2nd portion) with Light Tiger Knees.

3. You will be trading hits if you Tiger Uppercut him if he jumps in with hard punch. Use EX Tiger Uppercut to stuff.

-------------------

FEI LONG:

1. I honestly haven't had too much trouble versus Fei Long. He has a tough time versus fireballs, and his Hard Kick chicken wing can be telegraphed and punished with an uppercut.

2. Unless your opponent is known for doing LOLRANDOMULTRA, don't worry about whatever Ultra Fei Long has. He can't land (or activate) either one outside of a Focus Attack crumple. (Especially not his Ultra 2)

3. His EX Chicken Wing will go through fireballs, but once again, it's heavily telegraphed.

Really, I would consider Fei Long to be a bigger threat if his Rekka Ken's both:

A. Had less frame disadvantage
B. Had a slightly longer range in terms of forward movement

------------

GEN:

1. He's also weak against fireballs, and his new jumping pattern makes him an easy target to getting uppercutted.

2. Gen will often try to use Wall Dives.

-Up Wall Dive: Punish with Neutral Jumping Hard Kick
-Off-the-wall-Dive: Punish with Uppercut, or Block

Posted by OdinReborn on June 26, 2010 at 11:05 p.m. #109

GOUKEN:

1. Often, he will try to bait you into a fireball war so he can Running Palm you. Anticipate this, because you can punish all versions of his Running Palm.

2. Uppercut Gouken's Demon Flip until he catches on. When he does, he'll start using Punch Demon Flip (Parry) to counter the uppercut. In this case, either use EX Tiger Uppercut, or Standing Hard Kick

3. You need to really alternate between fireball wars, and jumping in, even though Gouken's crouching Hard Punch can stuff your attempts at jumping in.

---------

GUILE:

1. You will win the fireball war, again. You need to throw fireballs like no tomorrow and bait him into jumping in.

2. You can punish Guile inbetween the first and second hit of his crouching sweep.

3. Sagat really doesn't have that much trouble against Guile, just don't get too jump-happy or else you'll be eating Flash Kicks and Air throws for breakfast.

--------------

GUY:

1. Use fireballs sparingly, Guy can get around them, but not as much as Blanka can.

2. Guy will usually do whatever it takes to start setting up his target combo, stay on the defensive and keep him out with pokes.

3. Counter his air flip with an uppercut. If he gets wise, he'll purposely cancel his flips early.

-----------

HAKAN:

1. Treat this fight exactly like Zangief, except punish the occasional slide.

2. Though Hakan gets more range when oiled up, he still has to work his way in.

3. Hakan doesn't have the anti-air Zangief has, so feel free to jump into him (Unless it's Ultra 2). Hakan usually won't have enough time to set up his 360 kick grab.

-------------

IBUKI:

1. DO NOT LET HER KNOCK YOU DOWN AND START THE VORTEX.

2. Stay on the defensive, and bait her ground slide.

3. Your uppercuts completely nullify her air kunais. If she jumps in at you, TIGER UPPERCUTS SOLVE ALL YO' PROBLEMS SON.

4. If you have Ultra 2, and she does her Head Stomp move (Does not work on EX), you can punish it with the Tiger Cannon, ESPECIALLY if she throws a Kunai afterwards.

5. Ibuki, like Balrog, has a tough time cracking heavily defensive Sagats.

Posted by OdinReborn on June 26, 2010 at 11:14 p.m. #110

JURI:

1. You will win the fireball war with Juri, do not get baited into getting close to her when you do not need to.

2. Punish dive kick spamming with uppercuts.

3. Light Pinwheel is safe on block.

4. If she has Ultra 2, she will often try to set it up anytime she has it.

--------------------
KEN:

1. Ken has a better time versus Sagat due to his new slower fireball.

2. His medium kick is still a good way to get into Sagat's zone.

3. Inevitably, again, you're pretty much going to be going this one at close range.

4. Depending on the matchup, if Ken sees it coming, he will punish your fireballs with well-timed jump ins.

5. Ken's Ultra 2 goes through projectiles.

------------------
MAKOTO:

1. Really never had any trouble with Makoto. She can't get around your fireballs easily, and your Tiger Knee applies nice pressure.

----------------
M. BISON (DICTATOR):

1. Punish ANY and all Headstomps with a neutral Hard Punch. Works everytime.

2. If you have Ultra 2; If Bison tries to Devil Reverse you when near you, punish him with the Ultra.

3. If you have the life lead, don't be afraid to focus absorb the headstomp, then trade hits with the Ultra 2.

4. You need to play defensively in this match, Bison's headstomps aren't the problem, his scissor kicks are.

5. Once Bison has his Ultra 2, use fireballs very sparingly.

6. You're going to be fighting close again.

---------------
ROSE:

1. Though you can win the fireball war, Rose will give you trouble because of her slow fireballs.

2. Not too much say, but Rose doesn't have an overhead.

Posted by OdinReborn on June 26, 2010 at 11:21 p.m. #111

RUFUS:

1. Keep Rufus out as best as possible with tons of tiger shots.

2. Rufus WILL get into your zone eventually, and he WILL start setting up his block strings and dive kicks.

3. His Galactic Tornado and Dive Kick are safe on block.

------------------
RYU:

1. Pretty much exactly like Ken, except without the Medium kick.

2. At best, you're going to fireball war and bait a jump in. At worst, you're going to fireball war and get your face all BLARGHALRHED.

-------------
SAGAT:

1. The better Sagat wins.

2. If it's a fireball war, then you're going to have to time your high and low tiger shots so he gets hit and you don't. If the momentum switches in his favor, you have to switch it back.

------------------
SAKURA:

1. Again, not that hard of a fight. She has a tough time getting in past your fireballs.

2. Hurricane Kick is safe on block, EX Hurricane Kick is not (...I think)

3. The only real 'threat' she has is her crossup medium kick and setting up her EX Hurricane Kick into Ultra 1 or 2.

-------------------
SETH:

1. This really depends on the player playing Seth, as Seth can be both offensive and defensive, to an extent.

2. Counter all off-the-wall jumps with an uppercut.

3. Seth, obviously, has terrible stamina, trade hits with him whenever possible, because you will win.

Posted by OdinReborn on June 26, 2010 at 11:30 p.m. #112

T. HAWK:

1. Treat like Zangief, except counter his jump ins/Condor Dive's with uppercuts.

-----------------

VEGA:

1. His EX Dive claw goes through projectiles.

2. While you can use fireballs on Vega, don't get too happy with them.

3. Counter his Wall Dives with either:

A. Focus Attack (Absorbing it and hoping he doesn't grab you)
B. Jumping Neutral/Back Hard Punch

4. The biggest problem will be the walldives, and the fact that he can outpoke you, range-wise.

5. Vega has a tough time with offensive pressure and jumping in.
----------------
ZANGIEF:

1. Fireballs. Fireballs solve all Zangief's problems, except EX Lariat.

2. If you can keep Zangief out, you will win. If you can't keep Zangief out, your life will go to hell trying to get out of his range.

------------------

And I'm done. You probably learned absolutely nothing from this, and this was probably a big ol' waste of my time, but still.

It's pretty much impossible to go into Sagat-only strategies when a ton of those strategies also apply to other characters.

characters i want to see as dlc on super street fighter 4 is evil ryu, yun, hugo, birdy, alex, ingrid, and a separate character of rufus but the way he was suppose to look like on the character art of vanilla street fighter 4

Posted by OdinReborn on July 7, 2010 at 7:01 p.m. #117

#116, There is NEVER going to be any DLC regarding characters for SSF 4. SSF 4 is essentially finished, outside the arcade version (and thusly, any final tweaks).

#115, You're welcome.

Has anyone unlocked the street fighter. com icon in ssf4 who can tell me how to get it? It's 1 of my last 2 (other one it the 30 cheap wins one). I've beaten arcade with all characters on hardest (including alternate and vanilla rivals for those who have 2), and finished all combo challenges with all characters... Does any1 know the requirement to get it?

Drippy nozzle: unlock every other icon i think, so u have to get the other one that u are missing (30 cheap wins online). Ive unlocked it, it was the same with me except i was missing a different one (win by judgement). after i got that one, i unlocked street fighter. com as well

Thanks alot! I will get on it... Got all titles now too except merciless... 16 more chip wins to go and i'll hopefully have 100%.

Posted by ajuntalee on July 15, 2010 at 5:16 a.m. #124

this is not really a helpfull chart, i reflects well, bison, vega or gief who dont "combo" that much, now take ryu or chun-li for exemple, their light punch doesn't cause 30 damage, it opens the way for an ultra, now replace the moves damage with the guaranteed damage it opens the way for and you'll have a much more intresting chart where ryu is not abysmal but holds a place closer to his own.

even then it would not reflect how godlike it is to have your opponent having to guess whether you laucnh a meaty lariat, or a meaty undodgable command SPD, that is just an example among a lot of others. this game is deeper thean just comparing strengh of a few moves.

NO!! Some characters have ultras that would be too all-embracing if they were put together!

True, it would be cool to have both ultras at the same time - you could sometimes see moves like Ryu's ultra2 that nobody uses in a competitive play - but the game would have to be designed for that from the beginning.

@the_frog_splash_lives

I recently bought Madcatz TE stick for $90 and I love it! (I broke couple of fightpads earlier and got pretty pissed off). The TE (Tournament Edition) uses original sanwa parts (that are used in SF arcade cabinets), so it should be very durable. You gotta wait for a deal though... cause normally TE costs around $140!

There are cheaper sticks too. There is a MadcatzSE edition and Haori - they shouldn't cost more than $50-70. I also heard of Peawang Evolution that supposedly works on PS3/XBOX360 and PC and costs about the same. I don't know how good they are though...

Did you check the section on sticks here at eventhubs? You should find good info there! Cheers!!

the gameplay on this is so crap it unexplainable
the gameplay too fast
the movement all wrong
the facial expressions are wrong
on all streetfighters sagat has taken his opponents of the camera when giving them a tiger uppercut
BISON!! is a let down why is he so easy to defeat on super nitendo when you gave him a dragon punch he would still be standing...

ssf4 is a great game. It has the good stuff from sf4 + improvements. The only thing i think is wrong with ssf4 is that you cant hit them after KO, lol. it was fun pounding some opponents after KO..

Also, is there an option to put on handicap settings in endless? it seems like you cant...

SSF4 NEEDS GUARD METER

Posted by canabalistic999 on August 15, 2010 at 9:50 p.m. #139

@ chickenwings u are a smart man... that would make this game so much better in many ways as long as they varied the amount of guard meter the characters had, kinda like stamina variations. I cant believe i havent heard someone say that yet. Regardless this game is still amazing just a guard meter would do wonders for this game.

Anyone feel like playing random vs random?

OdinReborn, I appreciate the effort and time you put into that. Even though I don't play Sagat much, the information is always helpful. :]

mmm maybe not a great idea a guard meter, can you imagine rufus and hes dive kick?? or cammy??, maybe guard meter but this game seriously need to dont have those safe moves like

Posted by OdinReborn on August 19, 2010 at 10:58 a.m. #143

#141: Yay.

#142: There's no such thing as a fighting game that doesn't have risk tied into the moves. If there were no safe moves, then everyone would just dash up to each other and jab/poke the entire game, since all special moves would be useless.

Secondly, a guard meter would be absolutely useless in SSF 4. Except against some blockstring-heavy/frametrap-proficient characters like Cammy, Rufus, Fei Long, Makoto, etc, you really don't guard all that often.

Oh, and if you want to play against me, my PSN is OdinReborn. If you add me, just tell me that you're from EventHubs or something so I know.

My record is in my comment on PSN, but by all means, you can tell yourself that I only fight against bad opponents, or that I ragequit constantly, or whatever else excuse you can come up with.

I really should revise MAKOTO's and C. VIPER's sections.

Wow, first time I've fought Gouken, and it's taken me how many months? Then again, I never really actively tried to get to him, as I've always played online. Man, he's a toughie.

In-case some of you haven't fought him, here are the changes I've noticed:

1. His Fireballs are now 2-hits uncharged. This includes his EX version.

2. His Running Palm is VERY FAST.

3. His AI is a LOT better. He'll actually combo after doing a backthrow. (He did the vertical Hurricane Kick and the EX version when backthrowing me)

4. He has better priority.

-----------

He had his Ultra 1, but never used it, but I'm sure both his Ultra 1 and his Ultra 2 have different priorities then the standard character.

@OdinReborn
I'd be happy to play against you, but I'm on XBL. :[ Oh, and I started maining Sagat. Go figure. And yeah, I hear Gouken's a pain.

Oh god, I can't even imagine trying to play on a XBox controller. I'd rather use a stick than the XBox controller. I use the D-Pad; it's what I grew up with, so it feels infinitely more comfortable to me then a stick. To me, I'd only feel comfortable with a stick if it was like...Galaga or Metal Slug or something.

Posted by Hadododouken on August 21, 2010 at 7:48 a.m. #148

I use a stick, personally. I got one recently and have grown so used to it that it feels weird to play any game moving around with the 360 controller's joystick. And well, the 360 controller has a garbage d-pad. I feel quite comfortable using the PS2/3 d-pad for Soul Calibur and the like.

Incidentally, I love Galaga. Wahahahaha.
