In Japan, the alternate costumes and colors are with the character cards that you can buy. From there, you sign in to the SF website where you can use battle points to buy custumes. But dont use Akuma's. It looks like hes a cute present with that giant bow on his back.

i'm assuming no guide for Fei Long, Cammy, Gen, Sakura, Dan, and Rose until the console (xbox360/ps3) versions are publicly playable since these characters are not playable in the arcade SFIV.

well lez face it - given 2 equally good players, Sagat has gross inherent advantage that is not matched by any other char in the current roster.
fireballer tat is fast moving with high damage, high stamina and short recovery moves, whichever char faces him already has an uphill task even b4 the word 'FIGHT' splash across the screen.

Tier lists are bogus. Any character is capable of winning. Sagat definitely has some sick priority. But its mainly the fact that he is a beginner character. You dont have to be a great player to do good with Sagat. In my opinion Balrog should be in the top spot. Beginners will suck with Balrog, but in the right hands he is unstoppable. He's basically Urien, except you cant perry any of is moves. And EX charge punch beats Dp and Tiger upper! Friggin unreal!

You are contradicting yourself. How can you say tier lists are bogus while also claiming that Balrog will be in the top spot?

Tiers are merely a ranking of characters who potentially have more favorable matchups with the rest of the cast. They are subject to debate and can change as more is discovered with the game's mechanics or particular character. In a reasonably-balanced games, the disparity between the "good" and "bad" characters are smaller.

Any character can win in the right hands. However, a player who chooses a inherently weaker character will have to work harder against a player who knows how to properly use a stronger character.

I only used Balrog as an example of how a Tier list is broken. IF they did the same matchups today that list would probably change. Balrog would probably be 1 or 2. A month from now someone could learn how to use Vega in a way no one else has seen and start mopping up wins at the arcade. Then everyone is gonna say he's the best. I've seen it happen so many times. I think my problem isn't so much as the tier list itself, as it is with the people that base their character on tier lists.

All I know is on console release my main well be Gen no matter what any list ranks him as. Look for me on xboxlive if you want to challenge.

I already said said that tier list ARE debatable and subject to. Tier lists are based on results from high level play and knowledge about the game at the time. I never said it was set in stone.

I thought the same thing when the 1st vid came out with her bustin the ex hurricane kick into ultra. Man that seems too easy to do. I think her draw back is gonna be stamina, strength and priority. She might be a good gimick character in the beginning, but once you now how to play against her I bet she will be easy to beat. At least thats my opinion.

Personally, I think Sagat is way easier to play than Dhalsim, which makes it pretty impressive that a high level Dhalsim vs HL Sagat was so lopsided. It just goes to show that Tier tables are just stats. They don't take into account the pure natural instinct that players have when faced with diversity.

@the mk fan - You have to be freaking kidding me right Mortal Kombat.
Look every other fighting game including Tekken has de-evalutionized to the point to were just because it's a 3d fighting game doesn't mean its better. mk sucks ass big time.
I though it would be something to hold me over until sf4 comes out but its to easy. I feel like i'm cheating on hd remix when i play it.

Finnally, I will use the mk to trade in on 2-17-09.

I think it depends on the kick button you use. The Heavy kick version will hit 3 times from what i have seen so far, but have to confirm whether this next month when I get the game

So I've been playing this game in the arcades recently and love it. But I just can't figure out the timing for this game. I've never had trouble pulling off specials and combos in any fighting game before, but I can't seem to do it consistently here.

Like Bison's (c) down up moves. Instead of doing a head stomp, I just jump up and do a kick.

Does anyone else have this problem, and can anyone give me any advice?

Personally, I'll buy the mad catz pad as the game comes out cause I've always used pads and I don't know if the stick would be a good choice for me.
Then after a while I'll decide to buy it or not if I'll have the chance to try it, and I also want to listen to people's opinion on which one between the madcatz sf4 stick and the hori stick is better(i don't think I'll ever buy the TE).

Sticks > Pads, thats all you really need to know, most ppl here will agree with me. You need to try it out by yourself, only then you'll see the difference.
Char-controlling with this device far beyond pads abilities.

I was surfing ebay for Collectors Edition(CE), Pal versions of SFIV. The Pal box is wider and it has a display(diorama) for the figures, comes with both figures,the movie, and hintbook. I didnt see the soundtrack though.

I don't live in pal region I was just curios on what different regions were getting in CEs? Is it possible to update the site with info similar to this when its available? Or is it heer but im missing out lol.

thats alright kriz, i just find that way (negative edge, check out some SF3 third strike lessons, they help in sf4) easier.

if you want to do it the cancel way though:

HP, D, DF, F + P (any? on a normal control i find MP better)

you just have to do it very very quciky

Actually.. When you unlock a color it seems to unlock it for everyone. I know I haven't been through Sakura's challenges yet, but I have colors and taunts for her.

for the charge cancel into super it's just hold back, f+p, b , f+p again. the holding of the charge is only required for the kikoshou. after the kikoshou just do another back forward punch. if you do it in quick succession it will come off. timing is the key.

It seems that you're rewarded battle points depending on the battle points of your opponent. The higher battle points they have, the more you get whe you defeat them. Why in almost every online match i play it is always against Ken or Ryu. It seems as if the ather players are neglected and everyone is going for the Uppercut dudes. I find it so Diisapointing that players like Dhalsim and Ehonda are almost never used.

I'm pretty sure you can't invite people to a ranked match. Too easy to boost in a ranked match. You CAN, however, set your settings in strange ways (1/5 match, infinte time, Korean lang.) so that there is a great chance you will find each other.
Otherwise, just do a player match.

How do you pull off E. Honda's first move in the 3rd Trial Challenge?

It wants me to do:
-> [ crouch ] Light Punch
-> Sumo Headbutt

I can obviously pull of the light punch, but it requires 2 seconds of holding back in order to do the sumo headbutt. Doesn't look like it gives me enough time. After I do the light punch it highlights the sumo headbutt for 1/2 a second than goes away. What am I doing wrong?

Guys I played as ryu and got 2 perfects and 3 ultra and fought GOUKEN! before AKUMA! and had to play again but with 1 perfect and 2 ultra and I beat akuma with a perfect in 46 seconds weird

When you're crouching to do the light punch hold down/left. You'll count as charging (for the headbutt) as well as crouching at the same time. Tap your LP and immediately forward and punch to headbutt. :)

I just think this game is for hardcore players only, honestly on medium against cpu and knowing all the moves the characters can do this is still an intense game and with the stock controller for the 360 and ps3 this game is rediculously hard to pull off moves whenever the hell you feel like..

I agree people need to branch out and try other characters but that doesn't mean that Ken/Ryu are for noobs. A good Ken/Ryu can clean house (look at Edma for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_H07d...)

Granted, only a very very very VERY small percentage of people are that good at those characters (and basically everyone you run into online is terrible) but keep in mind that the majority of the people that bought this game haven't played since the SF2 days. What characters do they know how to play that are immediately available (and they remember)? Chances are it will be Ken/Ryu. And they'll be terrible but probably enjoy it. Instead of focusing entirely on cursing them out for "not helping you advance" why not take a little time to help them get better and thus advance you? And besides, why are you afraid to enter the tourney just because you'll fight lots of Ken/Ryu? It'll be like that no matter where you're playing and if you're as good as you're insinuating it won't matter anyway since you'll wipe the floor with them. ;)

That being said, I'm really really tired of them too. Maybe eventually they'll get better and/or try out new characters. One can always hope!

P.S. Just for the record...you're trusting G4TV for serious info? I really hope that was a joke.

I don't take them serious as they were only covering the game due to the numbers: However, i can tell that the people covering the game had some kind of insight from both pro players and normal players.

Did you enter the touney ? I didn't enter, not only because of the ryus and kens, but because of my own personal mission. I want to master a char that has been a mystery for years and playing him is going to take A LOT of time to master.

Trading hits is when you hit each other at the same time and both take damage. For example, say the match begins and both players jump at each other and kick. If they are both hit and take damage that would be trading hits. Doesn't have to be the same move, just refers to both people taking damage simultaneously.

My little brother entered the gamestop tournament here in Orlando, he was Zangief, he got beat. But he was the only person there who wasn't Ken or Ryu. It was ridiculous! To get the colours ( 8 not including the first two)
Normal Time Attack - Level 1,6,11,16
Normal Survival - Level 1,6,11,16
The other levels are just personal actions An Titles, An Icons..

it definately helps for loading times offline even though thats just a minor problem. As for online matches it pretty much all depends on internet connection speed although i'm not at all sure thats the sole factor.

As it stands sanwa is the best of the best, due to it's sensitivity. If you are thinking about the madkatz tourney stick it's great also, but is sold out everywere and wont be available until april...

i really dont get why people cry so much about shoto players. is it because people are getting beaten by them? to be honest, i win about 70% of my games and i like getting whooped sometimes. just reminds you that some people are at a completely godlike different league compared to yourself and you can learn from what they did to you. thats no matter what character they are using and no matter how cheap you thought they were.

It's not so much that I'm getting beat by shoto whores, it's more of that everybody in the world uses them.

I almost never get a chance to play against any other character, and it makes online tedious. Most of the shoto's I face are not nearly as good as the others, I faced this great Gen player a few days back that gave my Cammy way more trouble than most shoto players have.

Sagat is really bad too. 98% of the time, It's either Ken, Ryu, Akuma, or Sagat, and rarely anybody else. It just gets boring after a while fighting the same character over and over again.

If by charge you mean dash just double tap forward or back depending on where you want to go.

If you mean charge focus attack just hold Med-Punch & Med-Kick together.

If you mean a move that can be charged (eg. Sakura's Hadouken) just hold down the button used to perform the move.

At first it seems hard ,but try it with two consistent motions. At first the stick goes to the up right almost like an fire ball,FROM THE ANGLED POSITION, then when you bring it back down to the same position, then go straight up. make sure it's a consistent motion. Practice it because if its done to fast it won't come out. Its tricky at first, but I'm sure you will get it.

PS your character shouldn't stand up while doing these motions.

we do need an update as people are getting good fast.I train with gouken on the hardest difficulty and he canceled out of a hurrican kick-to a dash cancel to his
ultra. How the hell do you cancel out of a super move to link it to a focus attack.

I know how to focus cancel into combos and ultras, but how the hell do you do the oppisite when you are stuck in the animation of a regular super move.

Any suggestions.

Has anybody had troube exectuing super combos???? I am no in training mode... have my controller set to default, super combo gauge on infinite, ultra comobo gauge on infinite, and input display on... I pick ken. I am pushing the buttons perfectly to do a shinryuken(ultra combo) but he keeps doing a shoryureppa(super combo)... sometimes it works right sometimes it doesn't... i restarted the system and seems to be executing moves right now... but I'm worried about this happening in the future... I've been facing nothing but Ken. I've only fought like, 3 people who didn't use shoto, and they weren't much of a challenge.

It's starting to make online a bit dry and repetitious. It's fun, don't get me wrong, but it's just boring fighting the same 3 characters over and over again.

Don't listen to this ^ guy, he don't know wat you talking about, it's like impossible to do the fake kick with one button, just change the config and have 2 high kick buttons, then just tap one then the other a bunch of times(not really mashing but like a drum roll), you should be able to get sagat to do his fake kick in a few seconds

There is one thing you have to notice... ppl who play a fighting game want one thing to WIN, so its understandable that chars with dragon punch moves that are efective like shoto chars or sagat and i can go on, are the most choosen of chars. It has great priority over allmost every other move in the game. Zangief is a great char but his too BIG AND SLOW, and my favorit, of course im not going online with him because ill get creamed. so if you cant beat them... i say
GO FOR BROKE TRIUNF OR DIE!

its 2 full revolutions on 1 stick, the easiest way to do this is jump towards your opponent and then do the 720 degrees with the stick and then punch or punchx3 when you reach the ground, hope that helps

Wow young c, this is old news, super old news. Maybe you could pull it up in the archives. The DLC was an idea, but don't expect this anytime soon. they have other things to work on besides sf 4 Dash right know. I casn't tell you how I know it's rumored to be called SF4 DASH.

I would expect an hd remixed title first. Maybe alpha 3 since people are pissed about not seeing evil Ryu or mvc 2.

As you go up the ranks (Battle Points), you will start to see skilled players that use characters other than the Team Hadouken Clan. Im not saying that people who use (Ken, Ryu, and Akuma are scrubs cause thats not true. Its just that these characters are easy to pick up cause they been around forever and for the most part easier to use. When you go up in BP you will see skilled Abel, Balrog, Blanka, Fei Long, Guile, Rufus, Sakura, Rose, El Fuerte, Zangief, Cammy , Chun Li,etc. Any character has the potential to be great in the right hands. Dont cry about Ryu, Ken and Akuma because you should already know what they want to do because we all fight them so often. That should give you some kind of advantage.

Im having a hard time combo-ing Akuma's Light Hurricane to Heavy Shoryuken, to a fadc Burning Hadoken. I see people doing it, in vids, but on a 360 controller, after the 2nd hit of the H. Shoryuken, I know i FADC to early, and after the third hit, when I FC, I usually cant dash cancel. Can someone help with this, Its really bugging me..

Any all all tips will be appreciated.

Edit: After trying it out a couple times, it seems that im not FADC fast enough. Im still able to see the yellow flash, and in some videos, i dont see the flash at all.

Still, Tips would be greatly appreciated. :)

Ok, so after a whole lot of practice, Im awesome, and can do it on either side. yay!!

Now, one thing ive noticed, is that depending on which hit of the shoryuken ive canceled, the burning hadoken does a different number of hits. i cant FADC on the first hit, but videos show it hits 3 times. If you Focus Cancel on the second hit, The fireball hits twice, and on the 3 hit, it only hits once.

Why is that??

2 months ago I started to play SFIV and I didn't think SFIV had a lot of combo. It's really really interessing to learn.Then the way of playing.
To control a character very well (Abel) I had to practice a lot and until now I have a big margin of progress. It's almost as a good challenge as SFThird Strike!!

ok, thats it..they blew it. I can't believe they honestly didn't take the oppurtunity to make character patches with the new update. I mean seriously, what were they thinking. This just shows that the sf team really doesn't care in the long run how street fighter does competetively, I wonder what excuses they'll throw out this time. This is gonna turn out the same way as what happened in HD remix. They didn't patch akuma when they had the chance...made up some excuse why they thought he didn't need it...and then the entire proffesional community just banned him from tournies. Are the turbo buttons supposed to help for pulling off link combos? I notice that even if you assign turbo to light kick, light punch, they only link maybe 30-40% of the time, seems odd that it would be inconsistent since the timing is supposed to be precisely spaced out....

You know, I was kind of inspired by a combination of the tier rankings and 'The Deadliest Warrior' to do some of my own research on Street Fighter. I take two CPU characters, set it to Hardest, put them up against each other 20 times with 1 round and no time limit, and record the data. I record the Ultra Usage, Win Tallies, and O, D, and T gradings. For example, Dhalsim vs. Abel. Abel won 95% of the time,and used his Ultra 40% of that 95%, which comes out to 38% over 100. He had an Average Offense of A, Defense of C, and Technique rating of B. On Dhalsim's one win, he got an O rating of A, D rating of C, and T rating of A. that round, both Abel and Dhalsim used their Ultras.

some bots are set to harder difficulty, some to easier.
the new chars (rufus, abel, viper and fuerte) are usually tougher to beat then normal chars to animate people to play them

All the new character bots aren't harder to beat. For sure viper and especially abel is tough to beat, but at the same time el fuerte is the single char which I have the highest win percentage versus and rufus is very predictable as well. I find these chars (in the following order) the hardest to beat when facing the cpu:
seth, abel, zangief, fei long, ken, cammy, blanka and viper
I find the following chars (in order) the easiest:
el fuerte, gen, dhalsim, dan, rufus, ryu, and sakura

Dude I was stuck in traffic for 30min just to hit up the arcade in Asian garden, Westminister and they don't have SF4. WTF MAN! Unless I was at the wrong place, the arcade there is friggen small and the only street fighter they have is 2nd strike. WTF !! for those of you having problems with seth on any skill level.. we it says fight hold the jump towards hard kick then low kick after that never jump again cause he cheats.. dash foward before he gets up and do any move.. he cant stop it i just beat it with everybody on hard...

hi. never posted on here before, but something's really bugging me now. the other night i managed 1525 GP, then turned the ps3 off as normal. last night i played 3, lost them all. that put me on 1528. then, i got a damn message saying 'the last match didnt conclude properly, you will be returned to previous points', but it knocked me back down to 1360 gp!! any ideas? has this happened to anyone else?? is this a Capcom problem...or other??

A "Hitbox" is a term used to describe the areas used for collision detection in a videogame.

I personally wish, Street Fighter IV had Hitbox display as a training mode option. It could help you to understand why some attacks hit even though your leg/arm isn't actually touching them; or why some attacks don't connect even though you are touching. It can also help build strategies to cope with certain troublesome moves/match-ups.

Madness you’re totally wrong Guile has some of the best ant air moves blade kick, air throw EX sonic boom. You must really suck you got guile concept all wrong. I agree with you on one point, his super/ultra sucks. Just today matter of fact I got 23 yes 23 wins in a row with guile at Japan Arcade, at an arcade the real test 75% of on line player SUCK. You want to really test your skills go to an arcade if you have one near you. Not bragging but (okay I am bragging) I would say top Guile player in the US. Okay maybe not but to 10 I can guarantee. whats up guys,check this out.guiles sweep to super does not connect,anyone know why?or is it not supposed to.is it just to bait players into trying to counter his double sweep.let me know please,cause im goin nuts.according to the fame data you can.the only problem is that guiles sweep does not put player in a juggle state.just a knck down,even though it looks linked.

You pretty much answered your own question. The sweep is a knockdown and only a knockdown, does not give juggle state. So no, you can't cancel and expect to hit. The cHKxxSuper cancel however, is a pretty good way to waste a full super bar and get punished while you're at it. I'm pretty sure the block stun would not allow punishment of a counter between sweeps, because it must be canceled before your opponent is able to move. the ONLY situation i can see it working, is if your opponent attempts to absorb the sweep with FA.

I was thinking the same thing. i have yet to fight a player who did the FA before the second sweep. so its 50/50 a guessing game.thanks for the response.couple more.

As far as I know, There is no Charge Partitioning in SFIV (correct me if I'm wrong). So, you don't really have enough time after flash kick FADC(or a standard flash for that matter) to perform a second. You can however, juggle with Guile's Ultra after his Super. Though you probably already know this.

lol,yes sir,that i know. i have seen gullybaby do it.while character is in the air,h does med flash to get the opp.high enough but still enough time to recover to do the super,maybe y timing is off.but at the point of contact with the super is not the same for the second flash,it looks like he hits alittle lower with the second flash.look at the video on you tube or where ever. i have puuled off a 42 hit combo with guile leaving opp.with about 10-20 percent of energy left. im trying to do it on fools online but i get too happy after i do 24hits and my med P wont connect sometimes because i loose focus with the frames.its funy to bro,no one wants to play me that have already,i only loose to fools that play with cheap bastards like gen,i have some issues with chung lee, and with zangief(only when i start to turtle him though,again,i start getting funky and forget that fuldfgdfklers grab moves.lol)we should play sometime look me up xbox
synfulrain im more of a pc guys though.cant wait to see it.

Well, I know you can juggle with an EX flash, but like you said, only if they are high enough. I thought you meant a standard flash kick, you said,"2 flash kicks,is it possible".
Myself I main Dictator/Dhalsim(depending on match), and Gen is my secondary, but I am no fool. I do use others as well, like Blanka, and Boxer, but Dan is the ONLY shoto I use.
Against Guile, I usually use Dhalsim.

KARA THROWING IS THE DIRTIEST TACTIC EVER....

Ken spams it...and just a day ago a zangief threw out a low leg poke and all of a sudden Im being thrown from double dash distance. wtf?

Why allow a game mechanic like that. Basically, you are making a way for me to be attacked when my defense isnt allowing my opponent to come within range...so now they have extra range?

I think kara throwing should be phased out. Earn your strikes. Period.

Can anyone help me out with Chung-Li's kikoken(fireball)super and ultra? In the manual it says that to perform kikoken you need to press:
<---(charge) ---> + kick.

For her super you need to press:
<---(charge) ---> <--- ---> + kick

Her ultra is the same as her super except all three kicks.

My question is: what does "charge" mean? I've tried everything and I cannot achieve any of her moves. Can anyone help me out? The more specific that you could be, the better. Thanks.

the top 3 buttons are lp mp and hp. If ur using an xbox 360 arcade stick that would mean X, Y, and RB are lp mp hp respectively. Therefore the bottom 3 buttons are the 3 kicks.

I'm having a lot of trouble getting thru Ken's trials. Im up to level 4 sect 3 (jump HK, HK, M d/punch, ex) but cant get close enough to to the medium dragon punch after second hard kick. Any advice out there??

YO! BAZ you were so right I went to Japan Arcade today. There was no competition or they just knew I would kick their ass and no one played me but I had 2 spectators as witnesses. I used Ken, but I guess the character you choose don’t matter. I didn’t lose any rounds. I got many perfects super and ultras (was not counting so I don’t have actual stats) but anyway, I beat Seth and I was about to leave then instead of the ending its said bonus round and showed a salute of fighter who ended up being Gouken. He kicked my ass because I was busy trying to record it on my cell phone. I got one round recorded on my phone. I wonder if you can unlock more fighters and maybe even play them at the arcade. If any of you have fought any other characters’ please let me know how you did it and I mean at the arcade not on the 360 or PS3.

as a long term sf fan, when it was anounced on 360 i wet my pants, been playin since turbo on the snes but unfortunatly i have always played with a control pad and have never played in the arcade, so when my gfriend bought me TE stick for my birthday i was so optimistic i was gonna take my game further, im a G2-B with a control pad, and was still improving daily, but i suck with my stick! argh. please can anybody give me some hints and tips and make me fell my ms's didnt waste her cash! help!

Play using ONLY the stick for 3 weeks. NO CONTROLLER!! You need to develop muscle-memory using the stick. It won't happen right away, you will probably lose ALOT. You will need to learn to use nearly all of your fingers (not just thumbs and index) but, it will pay off in the end. When I switched, I couldn't perform throws on reaction because every time I had to think about the buttons.

Tip:
Whether you are playing or not, just sit there with the stick moving it around, and rotating it, so that you can find a comfortable way to hold it, so you can hit any direction cleanly and quickly.
Also, if you have someone to practice with, it helps.
Try playing matches where you only can use focus attacks,
or matches where you can use only throws, etc.

Thanks Oculus, some sound advice and it is reasuring to hear that other people have experienced similar problems. the most frustrating thing is being getting whooped online by people who i would destroy with a control pad, particularly when they taunt me! i have been tempted to use control pad to redeem myself but i realise that would be counter productive! will report back with any improvement, in the mean time if you or any one else can think of anymore advice or info i would really apprieciate it. Thank you for your time :)

Yay for joysticks! Ive been at arcades for years of my life, joysticks and arcade buttons are like an extension of my fingertips now lol. I for one have trouble pulling stuff off on control pads which pisses me off when i go to my friends' house.
