Guile vs. Character Strategies: Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix

Blanka Match Up Information

vs. Blanka

This is arguably Guile's toughest match up, and HD Remix Blanka is even better than he was in Super Turbo.

He can slide under your Sonic Booms, and his Beast Roll is safe from counter attacks.

Don't try to use Guile's Overhead Attack or Sabot Kicks (Towards or Back + Medium Kick), because Blanka can crouch right under them.

Standing Light Kick (joystick in neutral position) is a pretty good normal in this match because it should knock him out of his slide, counter his horizontal Beast Rolls and Super. The only problem is you're really limiting yourself when you do it because you can't charge for a Flash Kick — but you can charge for a Sonic Boom.

If you keep doing Standing Light Kicks you can charge back as long as you keep hitting the button without doing a Bazooka Knee, any break in your timing though will have you hoping forwards so be careful of your button presses.

Light Punch Sonic Booms into a Hop Kick (Hold Away and press Hard Kick outside of close range) work pretty well, because the Hop Kick should knock Blanka out of his slide and into your projectile for two hits. You need a lot of space for this though, because your Kick takes a bit to come out.

Also random Hard Punch Sonic Booms work alright in this match, because it gives Blanka less time to do a reaction slide under them.

Dhalsim Match Up Information

vs. Dhalsim

Guile's Sobat Kick (Back + Medium Kick) can hit Dhalsim's limbs consistently. You have to be wary of him sliding under your Sonic Booms, but the same tactics you use against Blanka's slide should work here as well.

Use your Hard Kick Flash Kick if Dhalsim starts pulling some tricky midscreen pressure tactics to knock him down.

From long range you're probably going to be getting into a fireball war. If Dhalsim starts getting predictable with his Yoga Fires, peg him with a Jumping Hard Kick.

Sagat Match Up Information

vs. Sagat

It's important that you stay about mid-range screen away from Sagat. If you're outside of this range he can pummel you all day long with his Tiger Shots, and if you get too close you're opening up his Tiger Uppercuts.

But from mid-range you can use Hard Kick Flash Kicks to hit Sagat's limbs when he does a projectile or mid/high poke.

From this distance you should be able to do an alright job controlling the match by scoring knock downs and using your pokes, just watch out for Tiger Knees.

Vega Match Up Information

vs. Vega

This is still a difficult match, but Guile's new Hard Kick Flash Kick finally gives him an option against Vega players who would do his slide sweep all day long.

Also the Claw's new Fake Wall Dive can give you issues when he baits you into a Flash Kick, so try to stick to jumping Hard Punch or Hard Kick to counter his Off The Wall moves.

You'll probably want to keep the pressure on as much as possible, doing a lot of jump attacks works alright, but be wary of Vega's Flip Kicks.

Zangief Match Up Information

vs. Zangief

You need to play very patiently in this match, and turtle, turtle, turtle. Basically you're going to spend 90% of this fight in the crouching down-back position.

Zangief can and will destroy you when he gets in close, so use a lot of Crouching Medium Kicks and some Sonic Booms here and there to keep him off of you. When he jumps, Flash Kick him.

The thing to avoid is getting predictable. If a good Gief player knows what's coming, he'll find a way to get in.

Remember that Zangief can't Lariat through your projectiles, because you can Crouching Medium Kick him out. So most players will just try to slowly advance on you and look for any openings they can get.

If he gets in close despite your efforts, get away from him with Jumping Hard Kicks to try and push him back, and continue to throw random projectiles to keep ticking away his life.

Good tips. Blankas give me the most trouble with my Guile.

Against sagat just time your jumps over the tigers and use medium kick followed by crouching medium kick and then a sonic boom or just charge your flash kick. Sagat has anm increased recovery time after he does a tiger making it safer to jump at him while he's doing tigers

Alot of people have been complainig about honda sumo smash (where he flies up and then comes down) hitting the flash kick. To resolve this when honda does that move, do the flash kick as late as possible when honda is on the way down. If you do the flash kick at any other time you will trade hits or lose to honda. Also with honda new headbutt you can just sweep him during his recovery frames. Honda is very easy to beat with guile but you just have to time your moves

Yes blanka is a tough one. I'm quite angry that this matchup hasnt been made easier for guile. The main problem is that slide. There are ways to beat blanka but its very very hard. You have zone him, throw a slow sonic booms and sweep blanka as he lands if he has jumped over the boom. If he slides under it jump backwards and press medium or hard kick on ur way down. If blanka is spamming the slide then try to cross him with jumping light kick. This still remains a tough match for guile

Guile's advantages from Super in my opinion as a computer

Super Duper 99% advantage of winning
Dhalsim
Guile can trash him very quickly I have proof that in all demo's Guile never lost to Dhalsim. It's extremely rare for him, Ryu and Ken to lose to Dhalsim as a computer. But as for human, you must have patience in order to play with Guile!

High Advantages
E. Honda
Dee Jay
Fei Long
Cammy
Sagat
Balrog
Zangief

Decent shot
Blanka
T-Hawk
Vega
Ken---> Not too too often
Ryu---> Not too too often

Big disadvantage
Chun Li-b/c they stepped up her moves. She used to be a horrible fighter in the original.

This concludes Balrog's the worst character in the game. Not Guile! Guile Rules

dude, you are wrong about balrog being a easy match for guile. Balrog is one of the chracters it is difficult to beat with guile

Rog is a tense but simple matchup for Guile, cr.mk stuffs his dash ins (if timed right), booms keep Rog limited.

If Rog HBs in through the Booms keep your spacing so you can sweep him after he whiffs.

Keep a FK ready for whenever he jumps in with his mediums and voila, you got him dead to rights!

Treat it like Gief, dont get too close and the match is yours.
