Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Guide: Intermediate Parrying

Having an intermediate level of skill at parrying comes from understanding your opponent and the game's various characters.

Also it's very important to know the parrying time of the combos and moves.

For example, the rate at which you tap forward to parrying a consecutive string of combo attacks varies depending on the moves and tactics a player uses.

Many players rely of bread and butter moves and combos with each character, and through practice and perseverance you should be able to learn the timing of how to parry and counter these.

Watch Dudley in the video for this section. He consistently attacks Ryu with low shorts, a common tactic most Dudley players employ because if he lands these low shorts it leaves him with some solid options to do damage.

The Ryu player is obviously quite familiar with this, and makes Dudley pay when he goes for it.

You can consider yourself a pretty good at parrying when you can anticipate your opponents bread and butter tactics and parry them on a semi-consistent basis, and then punishing them for not mixing it up enough.

when blocking down is it straight down with the joystick or diaganolly right or left depending where you are?

When parrying you press straight down to parry low/mid attacks, but make sure you tap down at the moment of impact, don't hold it down expecting to parry.

When blocking, it's diagonally down left or right, whichever way your back is facing is the direction you hold. And you'll want to -hold- the direction to block, unlike parrying.
