I don't really like the current SFIV Abel. He seems very generic and uninspired.
The old concept seems interesting. I dislike the idea of him being confused with a girl but I like the idea of a more slender character using Abel's moves.

I heard though that he is modeled a little after the MMA Champion, Fedor Emelianenko, who prefers simple appearances and humble personality similar to Abel imo. Fits him quite well....and i dig his ringside grappling gloves as well.
Yall hatin, if Fedor was the inspiration for Abel's model then i felt they did a really good job.
